Abstract
This study aims to determine the influence of individual character on financial budgeting and savings of young families in Surabaya. Individual character is proxied by self-control, debt preference and propensity to plan. The research method is explanatory research with a quantitative approach using multiple regression statistical tests. The data collection technique uses a survey method in the form of distributing questionnaires to young families in Surabaya. Each question and respondent column in the questionnaire uses a Likert scale. The results of statistical tests show that self-control and propensity to plan have a positive effect on budgeting, while debt preference does not affect budgeting because human nature strives strongly to fulfill its needs and desires. Then, self-control and propensity to plan do not affect family savings because the respondents are young families who have only been married for 1-5 years so that the nature of each ego is still high and need to adapt to household life and do not have a priority scale in carrying out propensity to plan, while debt preference has a positive effect on family savings because debt can be categorized as a dissaving condition or negative savings for investment or business for future savings.
