Abstract
Sugarcane seed varieties are crucial in achieving high-quality sugarcane with high sugar content/yield and production. Varietal management is crucial to ensure the variety composition meets ideal milling requirements. However, currently, variety management has not been well implemented. Therefore, it is crucial to identify the attributes of sugarcane varieties to evaluate their importance in variety selection. This study aims to identify the factors influencing farmers in selecting sugarcane varieties and to identify the primary factors influencing farmers in determining which varieties to plant. The research method used in this study is conjoint analysis. Conjoint analysis is a technique for determining the relative importance and value of various attributes of a product or service. The study was conducted in two stages. The first stage involved a preliminary test to identify the most important factors in selecting seed varieties. The results of the preliminary test were then used to create a profile card using orthogonal design. The results of this preliminary test indicate that farmer respondents prefer maturity type factors (early, middle, late), potential yield factors (low, medium, high) and seed price factors (expensive and cheap). From the results of the second test after conducting a conjoint analysis, it is known that the most important factor in choosing seed varieties when viewed from the importance value is the maturity type factor (55.095%), then potential yield (26.555%) and finally seed price (18.350%). The combination of sugarcane farmer preferences in choosing sugarcane seed varieties is one that has an early maturity type, high yield potential and low price.
