Abstract
The daily movement of commuter workers using private vehicles causes congestion, especially during rush hours. This study aims to examine and analyze individual socio-economic and demographic characteristics, travel characteristics, and transportation quality characteristics that influence individual decisions in choosing the mode of transportation used. This study uses data from the 2014 Jabodetabek Commuter Survey, the 2015 Mebidang Commuter Survey, the 2017 Greater Bandung Commuter Survey, and the 2014 Gerbangkertosusila Commuter Survey. The results of the descriptive data show that commuter workers who choose to use private vehicles are greater than public transportation. Jabodetabek has the highest proportion of public transportation users compared to other regions, namely 26.66 percent, while for the Mebidang, Greater Bandung, and Gerbangkertosusila areas, respectively, it is 18.58 percent, 14.29 percent, and 8.27 percent. The results of the logistic regression analysis indicate that individual characteristics that generally influence the choice of the main mode of transportation are gender. The general trip characteristics that influence travel are distance, except for Greater Bandung, and the number of modes of transportation used, except for Mebidang. All variables in the transportation quality characteristic influence mode choice in Greater Bandung, whereas none of the variables influence travel in Gerbangkertosusila.
