Abstract

Institutional investors' behavior during the bear market phase exhibited differing views on risk. In response to global financial problems, the Indonesian capital market experienced a significant decline in 2008. This study aims to investigate the influence of controlling and non-controlling institutional ownership, market capitalization, and stock turnover on stock market risk during the bear market phase of 2008. One hundred and three observations from manufacturing companies listed on the Indonesian Stock Exchange were used as the sample for this study. The analysis technique used was multiple linear regression. The results showed that during the bear market phase, stocks with high controlling and non-controlling ownership, as well as small market capitalization and less liquidity, were considered high-risk stocks. This indicates that the bear market in 2008 was considered only as an unsystematic risk that did not impact the company's fundamental condition by either controlling or non-controlling investors.
