Running a business is not only for profit but also for social action such as empowering the community as has been done by Selia Dwi Ratna Rahmawati, a Management student Universitas Airlangga 2015 who was recently appointed as a mentor at the School of Business student organization WEBS. Initially, she noticed her mother's customer who asked for a service package of clothes and makeup. From there! ah, she began to be interested and added to her makeup skills which had become her hobby. Initially, she made up prospective graduates and received positive feedback. Then she started her business career in 2015. "Make up is art, beauty is spirit." The slogan has
become the principle in running her business as a freelance makeup artist. She has also realized her dream of doing makeup for a foreigner, an exchange student at UNAIR who came from Germany. The turnover from this makeup service is uncertain and tends to be seasonal such as the Kartini season, graduations, weddings, and for photo shoots. During Kartini time, it can generate a turnover of up to 4 million rupiah in a day. Running a makeup service doesn't have a significant downside because the equipment isn't disposable and can be used multiple times. In addition to providing makeup services, she also rents out and sells kebaya and traditional clothing. She designs her own kebayas using trendy designs and has them sewn by a tailor in her local area, Tuban. Her monthly revenue from renting kebayas and traditional clothing reaches 5 million rupiah.
"To be a professional MUA, known by all circles, and provide new innovations in kebaya designs" is her hope for the future. She also believes, "Business will feel easy if it is in line with passion, even though sometimes losses are not felt."
In marketing her own products, she uses Instagram media with the account @byseliadwiratna for make-up services and @kebayaa.id for kebaya rentals. And she also opened a boutique in the Tuban area.
