(HIMA DIM NEWS) On Wednesday, February 19, 2025, the Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Airlangga (FEB UNAIR) held a New Student Welcoming event for the Doctoral Program in Management (DIM). The event, held in Room 605, aimed to introduce new students to the academic environment, effective study strategies, and student organizations that support their academic journey.
This activity is in line with FEB UNAIR's commitment to supporting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially SDG 4 (quality education) by ensuring a learning system that supports timely graduation, SDG 8 (decent work and economic growth) by preparing doctoral students as future leaders who contribute to economic growth, and SDG 17 (partnerships to achieve goals) through collaboration between students, lecturers, and academic organizations to create an inclusive learning environment.
The event began at 8:00 a.m. WIB with an opening by the MC. Next, all participants sang the national anthem Indonesia Raya and the Airlangga Hymn as a form of respect for national values and their alma mater. A welcoming speech was given by the Coordinator of the Doctoral Program in Management – Prof. Dr. Tanti Handriana, SE, M.Si., who emphasized the importance of discipline and innovation in management research.
Furthermore, the Head of HIMA DIM, Fariza Rachman, encouraged new students to be active in organizations and collaborate with fellow students and lecturers. On this occasion, he also introduced the Management Science Doctoral Student Association (HIMA DIM UNAIR) as a forum that supports accelerated student graduation through various academic programs and mentoring.
The main session of the event was an academic discussion on study strategies and timely graduation, including an introduction to FEB UNAIR and its available facilities. This presentation aimed to help students understand the lecture system, research methodology, and resources available during their studies.
Before the event concluded, a question-and-answer session took place, with active interaction between new students and the presenters. The speakers enthusiastically answered a variety of questions about research strategies, journal publications, and mentoring systems. The event concluded with a social gathering, which provided a platform for new students to network with seniors and lecturers to build a supportive academic environment.
Overall, the 2025 DIM UNAIR New Student Welcoming Session went smoothly and successfully. The new students gained a better understanding of the academic system, study strategies, and the importance of networking within the academic community.
As a recommendation for the next HIMA DIM work program, a similar event can be developed by presenting special sessions related to international collaborative research opportunities, publication strategies in reputable journals, and workshops on the use of research software.
Through this event, FEB UNAIR remains committed to providing quality education and a supportive environment for student development, in line with its vision of becoming a world-class higher education institution that contributes to sustainable development.
