(HIMA DIE NEWS) The Doctoral Student Association of Economics, Universitas Airlangga (HIMA DIE UNAIR) successfully held a two-day STATA Training, Wednesday and Thursday (25-26/6/2025), held in Room 601, 6th Floor, Faculty of Economics and Business Building Universitas Airlangga. This activity presented Adrian Chrisnahutama, SE, MSE, who currently serves as a Research Officer at Monash University Indonesia, a lecturer at the Faculty of Business and Economics, University of Surabaya (UBAYA), and doctoral students in Economics, UNAIR.
This training is designed to strengthen students' technical skills in managing and analyzing quantitative data using STATA software. As one of the leading statistical tools in economic and public policy research, STATA is considered essential for producing comprehensive, data-driven analyses.
On the first day of training, participants were introduced to the basics of STATA, from data exploration and data cleaning to the application of basic regression techniques. The hands-on presentation of the material made the training sessions easy to follow, even for participants from across disciplines.
The second day focused on hands-on practice through case studies based on real-world data. Participants were invited to analyze microdata such as the National Socioeconomic Survey (SUSENAS) and the Indonesian Demographic and Health Survey (IDHS), as well as macrodata such as the World Development Indicators (WDI) and the World Bank's Worldwide Governance Indicators (WGI). This approach enabled participants to understand how STATA works to address empirical questions at the household, regional, and national levels.
This training demonstrates HIMA DIE UNAIR's commitment to supporting the quality of higher education and lifelong learning, particularly in quantitative research. Mastery of analytical tools such as STATA is considered crucial for preparing graduates who not only excel academically but are also capable of making significant contributions to evidence-based policymaking.
Going forward, this activity is expected to become a regular event and an integral part of strengthening the research ecosystem within the UNAIR Doctoral Program in Economics. Furthermore, this training opens up opportunities for collaboration with various national and international institutions in developing data-driven, impactful economics.
