DOCTORAL SCIENTIFIC DISCUSSION VOL. 2 DISCUSSING SPATIAL ANALYSIS WITH TEXT DATA FOR DEVELOPMENT

(HIMA DIE NEWS) Surabaya, Saturday, August 30, 2025 – The Doctoral Student Association of Economics, Universitas Airlangga once again held a regular scientific forum entitled Doctoral Scientific Discussion (DID) Vol. 2. This activity raised the theme "Spatial Analysis with Text Data for Development" and took place online via Zoom Meeting on Saturday (30/8).

The forum featured Joko Ade Nursiyono from the East Java Province Statistics Agency (BPS), who presented on the use of text-based spatial analysis to support development. Participants gained a deeper understanding of the use of spatial and text data for research, with key topics covering:

• Introduction to R Studio
• Introduction to R Packages
• Spatial Analysis with Text Data
• Visualization of Economic Development Data

This activity aims to enrich doctoral students' research knowledge, particularly in the use of modern data analysis technologies. Participants not only learn the technical aspects of using R Studio but also gain first-hand insight into the application of spatial analysis in regional development studies.

The enthusiasm of the participants was clearly visible from the active interaction throughout the forum. The discussion became even more interesting because it was attended by participants from various institutions, including Universitas Airlangga, Tanjungpura University, Sriwijaya University, Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology (ITS), Brawijaya University, Muhammadiyah University of Semarang, UIN Ponorogo, Bangka Belitung University, University of Indonesia, IPB University, Sebelas Maret University (UNS), Gadjah Mada University (UGM), Surabaya University of Technology, Tidar University, Nazhatut Thullab Al-Muafa Sampang University, PGRI Adi Buana Surabaya University, Widya Kartika University, Muhammadiyah University of Malang, Khairun University (Unkhair), Surabaya State University, STIE Mahardhika, as well as representatives from agencies such as the Bali Provincial Statistics Agency, the State Civil Service Agency, and the Halal Product Assurance Organizing Agency.

With a wide range of participants from various universities and government institutions, the Doctoral Scientific Discussion Vol. 2 is not only a forum for sharing knowledge, but also a means of expanding academic and professional networks across disciplines.

Through this activity, the Universitas Airlangga Economics Doctoral Student Association hopes to continue supporting the development of students' research capacity and making real contributions to the development of economics and development in Indonesia.
