
Building climate awareness through webinar and e-conversation dissemination: S1 Student Association of Economics FEB UNAIR Discussing Clean Emissions
(Hima S1ie News) Climate change is no longer an issue that can be ignored, especially by the younger generation. Government throughout the world, including Indonesia, continues to try to minimize its impact. Realizing the importance of climate education, the Student Association of Economics (HIMA S1 IE), Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Airlangga (FEB UNAIR) held a webinar titled "Achieving Net Zero Emission: Aligning Government Policies with Economic Growth and Environmental Sustainability" on Saturday, May 10, 2025 online through Zoom.
This activity aims to broaden student insights about how to bridge economic growth with environmental sustainability. Webinar presented two main speakers, namely Ade Sulaeman from the Sayapili Bumi Community who is also the Indonesian National Geographic Editor, and Gabriella Gunawan, Coordinator of the Renewable Energy Division and Event in the Surabaya Clean Energy Generation Community, as well as the founder of Surabaya Epik. The discussion was guided by Nabila Candrika Putri, a student of Economics FEB UNAIR.
Webinar was opened with a remarks from the Coordinator of the FEB UNAIR Economics Study Program, Rumayya, SE, M.Reg. Dev., Ph.D., and Chair of Hima Economics, Atha Zaky Handika Putra
In the first presentation session, Ade Sulaeman explained the concept of Net Zero Emission (NZE), its implementation in Indonesia and other countries, as well as the challenges faced in their achievements. He also alluded to the role of Green Economy as a strategic approach towards NZE.
The next session was filled by Gabriella Gunawan who highlighted the importance of the involvement of the creative industry in an effort to achieve NZE. He also stressed the importance of utilizing renewable energy as the main solution that can be applied by the government.
Interactive discussion and question and answer session are the most anticipated parts. The participants enthusiastically asked questions about climate policies and concrete steps that needed to be taken. The two speakers answered enthusiastically, even there had been an argument that enriched the discussion.
The webinar continued with an interactive quiz session through the Quizzz platform. Participants who won the highest score get a prize in the form of a digital wallet balance (e-wallet). The final session was filled with a lighter discussion, presence, and filling out the evaluation questionnaire as a form of feedback from the participants.
