HIMA S1 Economics FEB UNAIR and Rised Holds PSM Training with Stata for Susenas Data Analysis

(Hima S1 IE News) In the era of data -based economy, the mastery of statistical software is a crucial competence for economic students. Realizing the importance of these skills, the Student Association of Economics (HIMA S1 IE) Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Airlangga (FEB Unair) collaborated with the Research Institute of Socio-Economic Development (RISED) held a Propensity Score Matching (PSM) training in Susenas data analysis using the Stata application. This activity was held online through the Zoom Meeting for two days, Saturday and Sunday (17-18 May 2025).

This training presented the main resource person M. Fajar Rakhmadi, SE, M.Ec., Director of Rised, who guided participants in understanding the concepts and implementation of the Propensity Score Matching (PSM) method. This method is a quantitative approach used to evaluate the impact of policy more precisely. In addition to theory, participants are also equipped with practical skills in using the Stata application, one of the statistics software that is widely used among academics and policy analysts.

The activity was officially opened by the Coordinator of the FEB Unair Economics Study Program, Rumayya, SE, M.Reg. Dev., Ph.D., and Chairman of HIMA S1 IE, Mas Atha Zaky Handika Putra. In his remarks, both emphasized the importance of the ability to analyze micro and macro data as a foundation in the preparation of quality research and significant impact.

Participants were introduced to the Susenas Data (National Socio-Economic Survey) from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), which is one of the primary data sources in socio-economic research in Indonesia. The training material includes accessing, understanding data structure, conducting data cleaning , to apply further analysis using PSM with the help of STATA.

The session takes place interactively and applicatively, with quiz insertion and case study as an amplifier of understanding. In a case study, participants were asked to simulate the analysis of the impact of Susenas data based on the PSM approach. The enthusiasm of the participants can be seen from the number of technical questions, ranging from the use of SYNTAX STATA, the selection of appropriate variables, to the interpretation of the results of the analysis.

Closing the training series, the committee gave appreciation in the form of a Digital Wallet Balance Prize (E-Wallet) to participants with the best quiz value. In addition, participants also filled out the evaluation questionnaire to become input in organizing similar training in the future.

This activity shows the real commitment of HIMA S1 Economics FEB UNAIR in supporting the strengthening of student research capacity, especially in the use of technology and data to produce sharper policy analysis. Through synergy with Rised, this training is one of the concrete efforts in preparing young people who are superior in the field of research and data -based development.
