Introducing the Potential of Sharia Economics as the Key to Gen Z's Success in the Society 5.0 Era

(ACSES NEWS) The rapid technological advancements in the Society 5.0 era have brought significant changes to human life, including the economic sector. Ease of access and digitalization have enabled economic activities to be conducted anytime and anywhere. However, this development has not been matched by an increase in financial literacy, particularly among the younger generation.

In response, the UKMF AcSES (Islamic Economics Student Activity Unit) of the Faculty of Economics and Business Universitas Airlangga held its annual Islamic Economic Safari on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, at SMAIT Al-Uswah Surabaya. This activity aims to introduce the concept of Islamic economics to students from an early age, while also increasing their literacy and understanding of an economic system based on Islamic values.

This year, the Islamic Economic Safari carried the theme "Sharia Economics: The Key to Gen Z's Success in the Society 5.0 Era." The main speaker for this activity was Fahmi Faturrahman, a 2021 student in the Islamic Economics Study Program Universitas Airlangga , with Faiza Aulia Afifa, a 2024 student from the same study program, as moderator.

The event began with an opening by the MC and a recitation of verses from the Quran. The event then continued with remarks from the Chairperson of the Islamic Economic Safari, Icha Nafisa Ajeng Pitaloka; the Director of AcSES, Muhammad Taufiq Hidayat; and a representative from SMAIT Al-Uswah, Ustadzah Yusifa Aulia, who delivered an encouraging message to the participants.

In the main session, Fahmi Faturrahman presented material on the introduction of the basic concepts of Islamic economics, as well as the urgency of understanding Islamic economics for the younger generation, especially Gen Z. He emphasized that the principles of Islamic economics—namely justice, balance, and welfare—can be a solution to various contemporary economic problems.

The event continued with an interactive discussion session, which garnered great enthusiasm from the participants. This session provided a platform for students to delve deeper into the material presented and provided space for questions and active discussion.

The event concluded with a joint documentation session and a closing remark by the MC. Through this activity, UKMF AcSES FEB Universitas Airlangga demonstrated its commitment to supporting inclusive and sustainable educational development. It is hoped that through the introduction of Islamic economics and the strategic role of Gen Z in the Society 5.0 era, students will gain new insights and be motivated to contribute to future economic progress.
