The Islamic Economics Doctoral Student Association (HIMA S3 IEI) Universitas Airlangga is once again holding a Research Camp activity aimed at deepening the understanding of doctoral students regarding research methodology, especially in qualitative and quantitative approaches. This activity is expected to be able to answer the need for in-depth knowledge about when and how these two approaches are applied in Islamic economic research. This activity will be held for two days, from May 23 to 24, 2024, at Villa Silver, Trawas, Mojokerto. Participants will attend a series of materials from two main speakers who have high competence in the field of Islamic economics, namely: Rifki Ismal, Ph.D - Deputy Director of Bank Indonesia, who will discuss the application of quantitative methodology in Islamic economic research and how to utilize it to produce strong and accurate analysis. Prof. Raditya Sukmana - Professor Universitas Airlangga, who will explain the importance of qualitative methodology in understanding Islamic economic phenomena more deeply and comprehensively.
Over the course of two full days, participants in this Research Camp will be encouraged to understand the fundamental differences between these two methodological approaches. They will also be guided in learning when qualitative or quantitative methods are more appropriate, depending on their chosen research topic. This will enable doctoral students to integrate the most appropriate methodology to more effectively answer their research questions. In recent years, Islamic economics research has experienced rapid development, particularly with the growth of the Islamic finance industry, zakat, waqf, and the halal economy sector. However, gaps remain in the use of relevant and in-depth research methodologies. This Research Camp is expected to address these challenges by providing practical guidance on managing both qualitative and quantitative data, resulting in high-quality research that contributes significantly to the development of Islamic economics in Indonesia and globally.
This activity not only focuses on theory, but also invites participants to directly engage in case studies, so they can apply the knowledge gained in real-world contexts. This is especially important for doctoral students who are completing their dissertations or who want to further explore applicable research methodologies in Islamic economics. This Research Camp is open to all doctoral students in Islamic Economics and is expected to provide a forum for them to improve their research skills, deepen their understanding of methodology, and produce better research that is relevant to the needs of the times. Further information regarding registration and requirements for this Research Camp can be accessed through the official website of the Student Association of Doctoral Programs in Islamic Economics, Universitas Airlangga.
