STATA Training of Doctoral Students of Economics UNAIR Successfully Held, Strengthening Research Competence and Supporting SDGs of Quality Education
Surabaya, June 26, 2025 – The Doctoral Students Association of Economics, Universitas Airlangga (HIMA DIE UNAIR) successfully held a STATA Training on Wednesday and Thursday, June 25–26, 2025, at Room 601, 6th Floor, Faculty of Economics and Business Building, Universitas Airlangga . This activity presented the speaker Mr. Adrian Chrisnahutama, SE, MSE, a Research Officer at Monash University Indonesia, Lecturer at the Faculty of Business and Economics, University of Surabaya (UBAYA) and also a Doctoral Student of Economics, Universitas Airlangga .
This activity was designed to increase the capacity of participants in managing and analyzing quantitative data using STATA software, one of the statistical software widely used in economic, development, and public policy research. This training is part of an effort to strengthen the research skills of doctoral students to produce sharp and data-based analysis.
On the first day, participants learned the basics of STATA in stages, starting from data exploration and cleaning, to basic regression techniques. The material was delivered in an applicable manner, making it easy to follow for participants from various scientific backgrounds.
The second day of the training focused on direct practice through real-data-based case studies. Participants were invited to process and analyze microdata such as SUSENAS (National Socio-Economic Survey) and SDKI (Indonesian Demographic and Health Survey), as well as macrodata such as the World Development Indicators (WDI) and Worldwide Governance Indicators (WGI) from the World Bank. Through this approach, participants were able to understand how to apply STATA to address empirical problems at the household, regional, and national levels.
This training also represents a concrete contribution of HIMA DIE UNAIR in supporting the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) point 4: Quality Education, particularly in ensuring access to lifelong learning and mastery of analytical skills relevant to the academic and work worlds. By equipping participants with technical expertise in data processing and quantitative modeling, this activity is expected to encourage the emergence of a generation of reliable, critical, and evidence-oriented researchers and policy analysts.
This STATA training is expected to become a regular agenda that strengthens the research-based academic ecosystem within the UNAIR Doctoral Program in Economics, as well as expands collaboration with national and international institutions in the development of data-based economics.
