Natural disasters often strike unexpectedly and leave a significant impact on communities, both physically and psychologically. In situations like this, swift action and social awareness are crucial. As students, our role extends beyond academics to helping communities in difficult situations. With this in mind, the Community Service Department of the Student Executive Board (BEM FEB) Universitas Airlangga 2025 presents Disaster Response, a program aimed at responding swiftly to emergencies through fundraising and distributing humanitarian aid. This program encourages students to be more sensitive to humanitarian issues and directly involved in the recovery process of affected communities.
Disaster Response also aligns with several points in the Sustainable Development Goals, such as SDG 3 (Healthy and Prosperous Lives), which emphasizes the importance of access to basic health services for victims; SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), which promotes community resilience in the face of disasters; and SDG 13 (Addressing Climate Change), which relates to efforts to respond to the impacts of climate change, which increasingly trigger natural disasters.
To realize these goals, Disaster Response is divided into five series of activities. These are the Disaster Awareness Campaign, Needs Mapping, Disaster Fundraising, Needs Distribution, and Evaluation & Reporting. Each stage is systematically structured to ensure that the aid provided is on target, sustainable, and has a real impact on disaster victims. With the collaboration between students, partner institutions, and the community, it is hoped that this program can be a form of real contribution from BEM FEB UNAIR in responding to natural disasters in a responsive and structured manner. Disaster Response is not the end, but the beginning of our long-term commitment as students. Because we believe that big changes always start from small steps taken together with heart and empathy.
