Expanding the horizon of knowledge

The Sharia Department of the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) Universitas Airlangga has again sent a delegation to Malaysia to establish research collaborations with experts in the field through the Student Outbound Mobility program. This program will last approximately two weeks, equivalent to 40 hours of full-time academic activity. Three doctoral students in Islamic Economics from the 2019 intake will depart in October 2022, funded by the dean's office: Arum Indiharwati, Joko Hadi Purnomo, and Ramdani. The main objectives of this activity, in line with the Tri Dharma of Higher Education, include academic peer review, joint research, and deepening research resources.

This offline program also relates to SDG 17, a partnership to achieve the goal. Students will conduct research with experts from several Malaysian universities, including the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM), Universiti Malaya, Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM), and Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM). Collaboration with several international universities will positively impact the international engagement of lecturers and doctoral students of Islamic Economics, Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Airlangga.

Beyond research collaboration, students are also expected to gain new experiences in independent learning and deepening their knowledge through a global learning process, as a manifestation of SDG 4, the goal of quality education. Independent learning is an approach taken so that students can choose their own fields of interest. In connection with the Student Outbound Mobility program, students have sought out experts/researchers from universities in Malaysia who align with their respective research and dissertation topics. Two students are addressing the issue of waqf (Islamic endowment), and one is studying Islamic marketing. By the end of the program, students are expected to produce international journal publications and high-quality dissertations.
