The Scientific Writing Competition as one of the SELEB (Sharia Economics Celebration) series of events is an annual program organized by the Islamic Economics Study Group of the University of Jakarta. This year's SELEB event carries the main theme "Roles of Millennial's Generation in Educating the Public with Sharia Economics". This competition sent 3 student delegates from the Islamic Economics Study Program, Faculty of Economics and Business, Islamic Economics Study Program, Universitas Airlangga who had previously passed the full paper preliminary round. This event was held on October 26 - October 29, 2018.
The three students who became delegates were Fatoni Mahendra Kurniawan, Annisa Rahma Febriyanti, and Firdayanti. On Friday, October 26, 2018, there was one of the series of events from SELEB, namely a national seminar with a speaker from one of the famous Islamic Economics figures, Mr. Adiwarman Karim. Seminar participants were very enthusiastic when they met Mr. Adiwarman. Paper presentations were held on Saturday, October 27, 2018 at the Faculty of Economics, Jakarta State University. Then continued in the afternoon session of Focus Group Discussion, where all participants were individually divided into 4 sectors (Education, Infrastructure, Philanthropy, and MSMEs) who would then respond to a problem based on a case given by the committee by looking at it from the perspective of the four sectors.
On Sunday, October 28, 2018, a field trip to Taman Mini Indonesia Indah with bus transportation provided by the committee. At TMII, participants could see various replicas of traditional houses from all provinces in Indonesia. The announcement of the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners was carried out after a series of workshop events organized by the Indonesian Zakat Initiative. The delegation from Unair won 1st place in the Scientific Writing Competition.
It is hoped that this activity will inspire the development of Islamic economics in the modern era and realize the second pillar of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education, namely research and development.
