On the first day of the guest lecture, March 4, 2024, Prof. Dr. Mohd. Azlan Shah Zaidi presented material on "Will a Nation Face Bankruptcy? An Analysis of Debt Dynamics Equation". A government is considered bankrupt when it lacks the resources to repay its debts, including both principal and interest payments, as they become due. This situation arises when the government's debt burden exceeds its ability to generate revenue or borrow further to cover its obligations. Bankruptcy for a government often involves defaulting on its debt obligations. This can occur when the government fails to make scheduled interest or principal payments on its outstanding bonds, loans, or other debt instruments. It is important to know and stay informed about the government fiscal space for fostering transparency, making informed policy decisions, maintaining economic stability, and safeguarding the well-being of citizens and the broader economy.
On the second day of the guest lecture, March 5, 2024, Prof. Dr. Mohd. Azlan Shah Zaidi presented material on "Current Trends In Economic Research". He also explained how important it is for economic research to collaborate with other scientific fields. Prof. Dr. Mohd. Azlan Shah Zaidi also gave a presentation on macroeconomic data sources for various countries that can be accessed by students to be used in the preparation of theses. This macroeconomic data source also provides comparable data for each country, making it very easy to find data for students taking research methodology courses.
Economic research plays a crucial role in analyzing and interpreting the dynamics of global and local economies. It encompasses a wide range of methodologies and approaches to investigate economic phenomena, trends, and policies. From macroeconomic modeling to microeconomic analysis, economic research provides valuable insights into the behavior of markets, consumers, and businesses. The findings of economic research contribute to informed decision-making by
policymakers, businesses, and other stakeholders.
So with this guest lecture, it can be one of the steps to introduce bankruptcy and the analysis of debt dynamics equation. And of course, it is important knowledge for economics students to make economic analyzes and macroeconomic policies. Hopefully, this guest lecture can improve student's knowledge as future economists so that they will be wiser in taking the policies that Indonesia needs.
