achieving sustainability(FEB NEWS) Deputy Governor of East Java, Dr. H. Emil Elestianto Dardak, B.Bus., M.Sc., some time ago (19/05/2023) gave a guest lecture at the Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Airlangga at the Student Mobility Program with the National University of Singapore (NUS). Presenting the topic "Achieving Sustainable Development Goals through Leadership from Government Perspective", Dr. Emil Dardak together with Sulistya Rusgianto, SE, MIF. as a moderator succeeded in grabbing the audience's attention with the material presented. achieving sustainability1

To start the discussion, the deputy governor who graduated from Ritsumeikan University revealed the fact that Surabaya is the second largest metropolitan city in Indonesia and one of the largest in Southeast Asia, making Surabaya an urban center that has a significant contribution to East Java, especially in the economic sector. However, Dr. Emil Dardak also said that despite the large economy that East Java has, there are significant differences in wealth distribution, so there are still many societal gaps in this area. This is certainly a challenge for the East Java government to achieve the 1st Sustainable Development Goal, namely no poverty.

To overcome this, Dr. Emil Dardak as deputy governor of East Java emphasized the importance of rural development or development of rural areas. Apart from that, Dr. Emil Dardak also paid attention to immediately developing productivity in the agricultural sector which is currently being hit by problems in the form of a lack of education and understanding among farmers regarding technological developments. Based on his narrative, various social assistance programs have been provided by the government to support the welfare of the poor. Therefore, this will continue to be implemented and developed by the government so that it can overcome the root causes of poverty in a sustainable manner. Thus, SDGs no. 1 can be achieved in Indonesia.

achieving sustainability2 The guest lecture was an initiation from the Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Airlangga to collaborate with the East Java regional government to introduce NUS students to the government's role in achieving the SDGs in Indonesia. This activity ultimately led to an interesting discussion between Dr. Emil Dardak with NUS students discussing Sustainable Development Goals. It is hoped that this guest lecture will increase insight, knowledge and new perspectives on the role of government in achieving the SDGs.
