(Feb News) Deputy Governor of East Java, Dr. H. Emil Elestianto Dardak, B.Bus., M.Sc., some time ago (05/19/2023) filled the guest lecture at the Faculty of Economics and Business Universitas Airlangga at the Student Mobility Program with the National University of Singapore (NUS). Bringing the theme topic "Achieving Sustainable Development Goals Through Leadership From Government Perspective", Dr. Emil Dardak along with Sulistya Rusgianto, SE, Mif. As a moderator won the audience attention with the material presented.
To start the discussion, the Deputy Governor of the Ritsumeikan University graduate revealed the fact that Surabaya is the second largest metropolitan city in Indonesia and one of the largest in Southeast Asia, thus making Surabaya a urban center that has a significant contribution to East Java, especially in the economic field. However, Dr. Emil Dardak also said that apart from the large economy owned by East Java, there are significant differences in the Wealth Distribution, so that there are still many community gaps in that field. This is certainly a challenge for the East Java government to achieve the 1st Sustainable Development Goals, namely No Poverty or the absence of poverty.
To overcome this, Dr. Emil Dardak as Deputy Governor of East Java emphasized the importance of Rural Development or rural development. In addition, Dr. Emil Dardak also provides attention to necessarily develop productivity in the agricultural sector which is currently being hit by problems in the form of still lack of education as well as understanding farmers about technological developments. Based on his statement, various social assistance programs have been given by the government to support the welfare of the poor. Therefore, this will continue to be implemented and developed by the government so that it can overcome the root-cause of poverty on an ongoing basis. Thus, SDGs no. 1 can be achieved in Indonesia.
The guest lecture is an initiation from the Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Airlangga to work together with the East Java Regional Government to introduce NUS students related to the role of the government in achieving SDGs in Indonesia. The activity eventually led to an interesting discussion between Dr. Emil Dardak with NUS students related to the discussion on Sustainable Development Goals. The existence of this guest lecture is expected to add insight, knowledge, and new perspective on the role of the government in achieving SDGs.
