Stu Gath MIE 1

The MIE Student Association (Hima) held a student gathering event in Batu, 21 - 22 October 2017. This event was attended by 32 MIE students from the 2015-2017 class as well as several lecturers such as Dr. Wisnu Wibowo , SE, M.Si, Rumayya Batubara, SE, M.Reg.Dev, Ph.D and Dra. Dyah Wulansari, M.Ec.Dev, Ph.D. This student gathering was held to familiarize and strengthen friendship between MIE students, as well as to update various latest information regarding student affairs. Student gatherings are also filled with various events, such as material from lecturers, friendly evenings, and outbound events.

Casual but Serious

The event on the first day was filled with material from lecturers. The first lecturer who had the opportunity to fill in the material was Dra. Dyah Wulansari, M.Ec.Dev. Wulan started her material by reminding that the latest S2-IE curriculum targets students to enter publications in reputable international journals indexed by ISI, Scopus, and Microsoft Research Journal.

Wulan explained one important trick for getting into reputable international journals, namely diligently reading journals. By reading a lot of journals, we will also learn layout patterns, how to write well, how to structure sentences, how to write references, etc. One thing that is very important in scientific articles is that the writer must be able to write scientific work that is easy to read and understand, especially in explaining something complicated into something that is easy to read. Articles must also be to the point and not long-winded. Wulan also reminded me to start writing well in advance, because the submission process to reputable international journals takes a long time, between 6 months – 1 year.

The next session was filled by Rumayya Batubara, SE, M.Reg.Dev, Ph.D. In his material, Rumayya introduced the task of 3P (Research and Publication Center), namely helping lecturers and students who will publish scientific works. 3P also supports research, publications, and supports the management of faculty and department journals. Apart from that, 3P also provides data, surveyors, statistics/econometrics training, data processing services and also provides special research assistants for lecturers. Lastly, 3P also has a budget that can be used to support various research and publications.

Rumayya then also reminded students' targets to enter reputable international journals. The easiest trick to get your article accepted quickly is to use new theories, new methods and new data. There are many interesting topics that can be researched, even myths. Rumayya also explained that the plagiarism threshold for scientific articles is 20-25%.

Exciting Outbound

The second day of the event was filled with outbound activities from EO. Even though the outbound only took place in the villa where you were staying, the event was still exciting and busy. Outbound is held in the yard as well as in the swimming pool. The event closed with lunch and a group forum. It is hoped that this event can be held again and become one of Hima S2-IE's regular agendas. (adle)
