The MIE Student Association (Hima) held a student gathering event in Batu, October 21-22, 2017. This event was attended by 32 MIE students from the 2015-2017 class as well as several lecturers such as Dr. Wisnu Wibowo, SE, M.Si, Rumayya Batubara, SE, M.Reg.Dev, Ph.D and Dra. Dyah Wulansari, M.Ec.Dev, Ph.D. This student gathering was held to familiarize and strengthen the relationship between MIE students, as well as update various latest information related to student affairs. The student gathering was also filled with various events, such as several materials from lecturers, a social night, and outbound.
Relaxed but Serious
The first day of the program was filled with lecturers' presentations. The first lecturer to present was Dra. Dyah Wulansari, M.Ec.Dev. Wulan began her presentation by reminding students that the latest S2-IE curriculum targets students to publish in reputable international journals indexed by ISI, Scopus, and Microsoft Research Journal.
Wulan explained one important trick for getting published in reputable international journals: diligently reading them. By reading a lot, we will also learn layout patterns, good writing techniques, sentence structure, references, and more. One very important thing in scientific articles is that authors must be able to write scientific works that are easy to read and understand, especially when explaining complex things in a way that is easy to read. Articles must also be to the point and not long-winded. Wulan also reminded people to start writing well in advance, because the submission process to reputable international journals takes a long time, between 6 months and 1 year.
The next session was filled by Rumayya Batubara, SE, M.Reg.Dev, Ph.D. In her material, Rumayya introduced the duties of 3P (Research and Publication Center), which is to assist lecturers and students who will publish scientific papers. 3P also supports research, publications, and supports the management of faculty and departmental journals. In addition, 3P also provides data, surveyors, statistical/econometric training, data processing services and provides special research assistants for lecturers. Finally, 3P also has a budget that can be used to support various research and publications.
Rumayya then reminded students of their goal of publishing in reputable international journals. The easiest way to quickly get an article accepted is to use new theories, new methods, and new data. There are many interesting topics to research, even myths. Rumayya also explained that the plagiarism threshold for scientific articles is 20-25%.
Exciting Outbound
The second day's events included an outbound activity organized by the event organizer (EO). Although the outbound activity took place only inside the villa where the students were staying, it was still a fun and lively event. The outbound activities took place in the courtyard and by the swimming pool. The event concluded with lunch and a group photo. It is hoped that this event will be held again and become a regular feature of the S2-IE Student Association. (adle)
