(Inspirational Story) Surabaya – Shafa Nasya Aaqila, a student in the Islamic Economics Study Program, Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Airlangga (FEB UNAIR), found her direction and identity not only in the classroom, but also through active involvement in campus organizations and committees. She proved that college isn't just about pursuing academics, but also about recognizing potential and building a more meaningful future.
Finding Passion from Non-Academic Activities
Shafa admitted that her involvement in the PSYCHOTALK UNAIR and EFESTAPHORIA FEB UNAIR was a turning point in her student life. "PSYCHOTALK and EFESTAPHORIA truly shaped my passion. From there, I realized I was interested in external fields, especially public relations, partnerships, and sponsorship," she said.
Through these activities, Shafa realized that trying new things is the best way to discover true passions. "Sometimes we only realize what we like after trying it. So, friends, especially new students, don't hesitate to step out of your comfort zone. It could be the first door to your future," she added.
Lecturers Who Guide with Empathy
Shafa not only gained valuable experience through the organization, but also through positive relationships with FEB UNAIR lecturers. In her first semester, the Introduction to Business was a memorable experience thanks to the lecturers' open and supportive approach. "The lecturers were easy to discuss with, not judgmental, but instead provided good guidance. That made me more confident in expressing my opinions," she recalled.
This experience continued into the final stages of her studies, including writing her thesis. "The lecturers here are always ready to be at the forefront of assisting students in selecting research topics. From the beginning to the final exam, we were guided patiently and wisely," she explained.
Shafa also offered a warm message to other students: "Don't be afraid to discuss things with your lecturers. They're not just teachers, but also mentors, supporters, and learning partners."
Message to New Students: Find Your Own Rhythm
Based on her experience, Shafa offers a reflective message for new students: “In the age of social media, it’s easy to feel left behind. But remember, focusing on your own journey is far more important than comparing yourself to others. Identify your interests first. It’s okay if you haven’t joined an organization or internship yet. Everything has its time. All feelings are valid—and they’re human.”
He emphasized the importance of a gradual, unhurried process in finding one's direction in life: "It's okay to learn slowly. From there, we can firmly determine the direction we want to go."
For final year students, Shafa also advised them to continue to be persistent so they can complete their studies on time.
Campus with a Positive Environment
Shafa also feels fortunate to be in the FEB UNAIR environment, which supports the holistic growth and development of students. "The campus atmosphere is exciting. The people are humble and friendly. A healthy environment greatly influences our development, both academically and non-academically."
With a combination of environmental support, inspiring lecturers, and a passion for continuous development, Shafa is now increasingly ready to step into the professional world.
