UNAIR MANAGEMENT LECTURERS IMPROVE THE COMPETITIVENESS OF PUTAT JAYA SMEs THROUGH A MANAGERIAL WORKSHOP

Surabaya, Saturday, November 15, 2025 – Lecturers from the Department of Management Universitas Airlangga held a MSME Management Workshop to strengthen the capacity of business actors in the Putat Jaya area, the former Dolly localization area. The event, held on Saturday (11/15/2025), involved 25 MSME actors and took place in the Sawahan District Meeting Room.

With the theme "Revitalizing MSMEs in the Former Dolly Localization Area," this training focused on improving the welfare and competitiveness of MSMEs, thereby strengthening the positive image of the Putat Jaya community. The community service program was led by Zainul Musthofa, MM, who designed the activities into three main sessions.

The first session, on product differentiation, was delivered by Zahrin Haznina, M.Sc., emphasizing the importance of product uniqueness in winning market competition. This was followed by digital marketing material by Ratri Aisyah, MM., who provided strategies for utilizing digital platforms to increase visibility and sales. The next session, presented by Dunga Dwi Barinta, MM, discussed MSME product packaging, focusing on the role of packaging in attracting consumers and increasing product sales value.

This activity was also attended by the Sawahan Sub-district Head along with representatives from the sub-district and village, who provided full support for efforts to increase the capacity of MSMEs as part of strengthening the local community economy.

Not only that, this workshop was also attended by business management experts from the Department of Management FEB UNAIR, such as Prof. Gancar Candra, Prof. Rizki Sridadi, Prof. Fitri Ismiyanti, Dr. Wisudanto, Dr. Masmira, and Nabilah Ratnaduhita, MSM to provide direct insights on business management, business innovation, and sustainability strategies relevant to MSMEs. In addition to involving lecturers, this activity also presented the participation of Undergraduate Management Study Program students as the organizing team, as well as Doctoral students of Management Science (DIM) who helped design the activity.

With this workshop, the UNAIR Management Lecturer hopes that Putat Jaya MSMEs can grow more adaptively, professionally, and competitively, thus being able to drive the revival of the local economy following the revitalization of the former Dolly red-light district. This initiative aligns with the objectives of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically SDG 1 (No Poverty), SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), and SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities).
