The cement industry is a highly attractive market, given its continuously growing potential. With a growing population, which inevitably requires housing, and increasing state budget allocations for investment, Indonesia is also a country rich in cement raw materials. Therefore, it's natural that Indonesia is a target for foreign cement producers.
Head of MM Unair, Dr. Gancar C Premananto, along with the Deputy Governor of East Java, Gus Ipul, and the Chairman of the Coordinating Board of Regionally-Owned Enterprises (BUMD) throughout Indonesia, Mr. Arif Affandi, sat down to discuss the problems in the cement industry.
The discussion, initiated by the 2017 Surabaya Journalist Discussion Forum, also specifically addressed the case of Semen Gresik in Rembang, which experienced problems during its establishment.
The Head of MM FEB Unair, on that occasion, conveyed the many lessons learned from the SG and NGO cases. Learning about Business Processes, Marketing Communications, Ethics, and even spiritual learning were discussed in the event.
Meanwhile, Mr. Arif Afandi, said that managing a BUMN and BUMD is more difficult than managing a private company. This is because the regulations underlying their management are more numerous for BUMN/BUMD than for the private sector.
Gus Ipul in his presentation concluded by stating the need for a movement to regain pride in domestic products, to be able to withstand the onslaught of foreign products.
The event was very exciting and attended by dozens of economic journalists from various print and electronic media.
