The conference, which was the highlight of the 2023 EJAVEC Forum, was also attended by the Chair of the Surabaya Branch of ISEI, East Java Coordinator; the Head of the Financial Services Authority; the Head of the Directorate General of Treasury of East Java Province; the Deputy Dean I of FEB UNAIR; and the Rector of Perbanas, Hayam Wuruk. The Senior Deputy Governor of Bank Indonesia and the Deputy Governor of East Java also delivered strategic directions.
In his opening remarks, Doddy Zulverdi, Head of the Bank Indonesia Representative Office for East Java Province, stated that the 2023 EJAVEC aims to increase public and stakeholder understanding of the East Java economy, build a scientific ecosystem that supports research-based policies, and explore creative solutions to address various challenges in East Java.
The day before, the EJAVEC Call for Paper 2023 was held at FEB UNAIR, as one of the series of activities of the EJAVEC Forum 2023, which has collected 120 full papers from within the country, as well as from abroad, such as from Arabia, Japan and Malaysia.
This achievement, according to the Deputy Dean I of FEB Universitas Airlangga , Wisnu Wibowo said that EJAVEC is no longer a regional forum, but has leveled up to an international scale.
"58 percent of participants came from outside East Java. This shows that what's happening in East Java is attracting the attention of economic and business actors outside the province. It's no surprise that East Java is the second-largest economic contributor after Jakarta," said Dr. Wisnu Wibowo.
The EJAVEC Call for Paper 2023 will serve as a forum for researchers, including students, to express their ideas.
Soni Harsono, Chairman of the Surabaya Branch of the Indonesian Association of Economics Graduates (ISEI), East Java Coordinator, added that several papers provided truly applicable recommendations for solving problems. "With quality papers, their application to economic development in East Java will be even better," he explained.
As part of the Conference, Bank Indonesia announced the winners from 120 participants, who had been narrowed down to 19 finalists. The selection process involved a panel of nine competent judges.
Present as the keynote speaker was Senior Deputy Governor of Bank Indonesia, Ms. Destry Damayanti, who conveyed the need to remain vigilant and continue to encourage regional resilience, in the face of the increasing global economic uncertainty.
In his keynote speech, Deputy Governor of East Java, Emil Elestianto Dardak, stated that East Java's economic indicators are still improving amidst ongoing global and domestic pressures. According to Dardak, resilience still needs to be promoted, including through strengthening inter-industry continuity, enhancing the role of MSMEs for greater inclusivity, and strengthening the trade sector through leveraging the digital economy.
