FEB UNAIR encourages economic independence in Kandangan Village through the PPK ORMAWA Kandangan Glora program

(FEB NEWS) Kandangan, August 9, 2024 – Students of the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) who are members of the Kandangan Gelora Student Organization Capacity Building Program (PPK Ormawa), held the Opening of the Community Service Program aimed at increasing the economic independence of Kandangan Village, Lumajang. The event, which took place at the Kandangan Village Hall, Senduro District, Lumajang Regency, was inaugurated by the Dean of FEB UNAIR – Prof. Dr. Dian Agustia, SE., M.Si., Ak., CMA., CA., and was attended by the ranks of the FEB UNAIR Deanery, Universitas AirlanggaAlumni Association, the Lumajang Regency government, and village officials.

The opening ceremony was marked by a traditional dance performance by the Kandangan Dance Studio, followed by remarks from various attendees. In commemoration of the 63rd Anniversary of FEB UNAIR, the faculty also presented a Synergy for the Nation Donation to an Elementary School Principal in Kandangan Village. After the series of events at the Village Hall, the guests proceeded to the Village-Owned Enterprise (BUMDes) location to officially open the BUMDes, marked by a ribbon-cutting ceremony by the Dean of FEB UNAIR. The event continued with tastings of various local products and watching demonstrations of coffee and milk processing.

The Kandangan Gelora Student Organization (Ormawa) PPK program focuses on the establishment of a Village-Owned Enterprise (BUMDes) and the reactivation of local commodities such as coffee, cardamom, and Etawa goat's milk. The goal is to increase the market value of Kandangan Village's local commodities through processing assistance, coffee grinder grants, and training in processing coffee and milk into yogurt. Furthermore, the program provides skills development training for villagers, including bookkeeping, administration, e-commerce, and halal certification assistance.

This program provides students with hands-on experience applying the knowledge and skills they learn on campus to real-world situations. Students not only learn about village-owned enterprise (BUMDes) management and commodity processing, but also understand the challenges and solutions in local economic development. Their involvement also supports the development of soft skills such as leadership, teamwork, and effective communication. Furthermore, students gain valuable experience in project planning, implementation, and evaluation, which are crucial assets in the professional world.

The PPK Ormawa Kandangan Gelora program also aligns with several points in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 8, which relates to Decent Work and Economic Growth, and SDG 12, which focuses on Responsible Consumption and Production. By establishing a Village-Owned Enterprise (BUMDes) and increasing the selling value of local commodities, this program supports the creation of new jobs and improves the community's quality of life through inclusive economic growth. Training in local commodity processing and halal certification assistance support sustainable and responsible production practices, as well as raising awareness of the importance of efficient resource management.

The PPK Ormawa Kandangan Gelora program is not just a community service initiative, but also a strategic step in encouraging village economic empowerment through the development of Village-Owned Enterprises (BUMDes) and local commodities. This program provides direct benefits to the community and students, strengthens the link between theory and practice, and creates a positive impact that supports global sustainable development goals. FEB UNAIR's active involvement in this program demonstrates its commitment to local development and sustainable human resource development.
