Answering the challenges of the dual role, the Muslim Mosaic FEB UNAIR Holds Inspirational Studies on Work-Life Balance

(MOSAIC NEWS) — On April 25, 2025, the MOSAIC Muslim Affairs Division of the Faculty of Economics and Business Universitas Airlangga (FEB UNAIR) in collaboration with the SKI Muslim Affairs Division of the Faculty of Vocational Studies (FV) UNAIR held a Routine Muslimah Study program entitled “Work-Life Balance: Is It Possible to Succeed in Career and Family at the Same Time?” This activity provided a reflective space for Muslim women to discuss the current challenges in carrying out dual roles in a balanced manner in the domestic and professional spheres.

Held on the third floor of The Gade Creative Lounge, FEB UNAIR, the event featured Umma Dhyna, an alumna Universitas Airlangga, as the main speaker. The lecture was open to the public and was attended by Muslim women from various backgrounds, particularly members of the academic community within FEB UNAIR and FV UNAIR.

In her presentation, Umma Dhyna explained that Islam does not view women's roles as limited to a single dimension. Islam values women's contributions both in the family and the workplace. She also criticized the secular-capitalist system that makes material possessions the primary indicator of happiness, and urged participants to return to sharia values, which prioritize balance and usefulness as measures of success. She argued that the state also plays a crucial role in ensuring the welfare of its citizens, including the fulfillment of women's rights.

This study is expected to be a source of motivation and inspiration for Muslim women to remain productive, carry out their mandates in a balanced manner, and continue to adhere to Islamic principles in every aspect of their lives.

The Muslimah Routine Study Program demonstrates the commitment of the MOSAIC FEB UNAIR Muslim Affairs Division to supporting increased access to quality, inclusive, contextual, and values-based education. Through a thematic approach relevant to social realities, this activity provides a non-formal learning space for all women to broaden their horizons, improve literacy in Islamic values in a contemporary context, and foster critical and reflective thinking.

Furthermore, this activity also strengthens the institution's efforts to promote gender equality through the intellectual and spiritual empowerment of women. By openly discussing women's dual roles, this activity creates a space for healthy discussion and builds collective awareness about the importance of supporting women in realizing their potential in various fields, without losing their identity as Muslim women. This program serves as a concrete example of how higher education institutions can facilitate values-based social transformation through education, dialogue, and cross-unit collaboration.
