ROAD TO EJAVEC 2025(FEB NEWS) Friday, February 21, 2025 – Faculty of Economics and Business Universitas Airlangga (FEB UNAIR), in collaboration with Bank Indonesia (BI) East Java Representative Office and the Indonesian Economists Association (ISEI) Surabaya Branch – East Java Coordinator, successfully held the Road to East Java Economic (EJAVEC) Forum 2025. Held at the Soepoyo Hall of FEB UNAIR, this event presented economic experts, academics, and finalists of the 2024 EJAVEC competition to discuss strategies for increasing productivity and regional economic innovation in facing global challenges. Present representing Bank Indonesia, Mr. Petrus Endria Effendhi, Senior Economist of Bank Indonesia – East Java Province.

The event opened with welcoming remarks from Prof. Dr. Dian Agustia, SE., M.Si., Ak, CMA., CA., Dean of FEB UNAIR, who emphasized the importance of this scientific forum as a forum for academics, practitioners, and students in formulating innovative solutions for the East Java economy. "Active participation from various groups will be key in producing innovations and policies that have a real impact," said Prof. Dian.

Echoing this sentiment, Prof. Dr. Soni Harsono, M.Si., Chair of the Surabaya Branch of ISEI – East Java Coordinator, highlighted that EJAVEC has been a strategic forum for examining economic issues in East Java since 2014. He also revealed that the EJAVEC 2025 Call for Papers will address a range of important topics, including capital-intensive industries, workforce quality, domestic and international trade, and price stability and food security.

Strategic Discussion: Challenges and Opportunities for the East Java Economy

The discussion session was moderated by Prof. Dr. Sautma Ronni Basana, B.SE., ME., Head of Field I of ISEI Surabaya, who presented three main speakers with interesting and relevant topics.

Prof. Dr. Telisa Aulia Falianty, SE., ME., Professor of the Faculty of Economics and Business, University of Indonesia, in her presentation highlighted the importance of innovation and productivity in facing global challenges. She emphasized that East Java holds significant opportunities in the technology sector, the electric vehicle industry, and renewable energy. However, major challenges remain, such as stagnant labor productivity and global economic uncertainty.

Meanwhile, Dr. Miguel Angel Esquivias Padilla, M.SE., a lecturer in Economics at the Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR), discussed the dynamics of East Java's trade within the global economic landscape. He highlighted the ongoing imbalance in export and import trends and the need for market diversification to increase regional export competitiveness.

As part of efforts to encourage academic participation in EJAVEC 2025, this session also featured Ms. Nuryantiningsih Pusporini and her team, EJAVEC 2024 finalists, who shared their experiences in research related to transportation efficiency in the sugarcane industry in East Java. They emphasized the importance of concrete solution-based research and encouraged more academics and students to contribute to regional economic development.
