(FEB NEWS) On Tuesday, May 24 2023, the Department of Strategic Studies and Action BEM FEB UNAIR successfully held an Intellectual Casual Talk event which was an open discussion about economic and social issues that have been hot recently. This event was held in the Graha Krida FEB UNAIR Student Hall and was open so anyone could come to this event, even if they were not FEB UNAIR students.
This time's Intellectual Casual Talk raised the theme "BRICS Policy: Will the Dollar Disappear from Indonesia?" and presenting four speakers who are expected to provide their respective points of view regarding the issues raised. The resource person present was Gigih Prihantono, SE, M.SE. who is a FEB UNAIR Lecturer and Economic Observer; Probo Darono Yaakti, S.Hub.Int., M.Hub.Int. who is a FISIP UNAIR Lecturer and Observer of Geopolitical Issues; HM Ali Affandi La Nyalla, MM, SM, M. MT. who is chairman of the Surabaya Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry; and Petrus Endria Effendi as Assistant Director of Bank Indonesia KPw East Java.
The discussion was opened by the moderator – Afrizal Naufal Ghani, as Head of the Strategic Studies and Action Department of BEM FEB UNAIR – by telling how the superpower United States has now begun to lose its prestige, followed by the emergence of the regional power BRICS – consisting of Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa – which is suspected to be able to shift the hegemony of the United States.
In the middle of the forum, Mr. Ali Affandi gave a brief discussion regarding BRICS itself. He interacted with the participants present at the GKM AULA that afternoon by asking the question, "Which coalition of forces will survive, the G7 or the BRICS?" From this question, Mr. Ali Affandi also said that he hoped that in the future students would understand about BRICS and understand what students could expect from BRICS in the future.
