achieving sustainability(FEB NEWS) The Deputy Governor of East Java, Dr. H. Emil Elestianto Dardak, B.Bus., M.Sc., some time ago (19/05/2023) filled a guest lecture at the Faculty of Economics and Business Universitas Airlangga at the Student Mobility Program event with the National University of Singapore (NUS). Presenting the topic themed "Achieving Sustainable Development Goals through Leadership from Government Perspective", Dr. Emil Dardak together with Sulistya Rusgianto, SE, MIF. as moderator managed to capture the audience's attention with the material presented.

achieving sustainable1To begin the discussion, the deputy governor, a graduate of Ritsumeikan University, revealed the fact that Surabaya is the second largest metropolitan city in Indonesia and one of the largest in Southeast Asia, making Surabaya an urban center that has a significant contribution to East Java, especially in the economic sector. However, Dr. Emil Dardak also said that despite the large economy that East Java has, there are significant differences in wealth distribution, so that there are still many social gaps in this area. This certainly presents a challenge for the East Java government to achieve Sustainable Development Goal 1, namely no poverty.

To address this issue, Dr. Emil Dardak, the Deputy Governor of East Java, emphasized the importance of rural development. He also emphasized the importance of immediately increasing productivity in the agricultural sector, which is currently plagued by problems such as a lack of education and understanding of technological developments among farmers. He noted that the government has provided various social assistance programs to support the welfare of the poor. Therefore, the government will continue to implement and develop these programs to address the root causes of poverty sustainably. This will, in turn, contribute to the achievement of SDG No. 1 in Indonesia.

achieving sustainable2The guest lecture was initiated by the Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Airlangga , in collaboration with the East Java regional government to introduce NUS students to the government's role in achieving the SDGs in Indonesia. The activity ultimately led to an engaging discussion between Dr. Emil Dardak and NUS students regarding the Sustainable Development Goals. This guest lecture is expected to broaden insights, knowledge, and provide new perspectives on the government's role in achieving the SDGs.
