Gresik, November 27, 2025 – Master of Management students from the Faculty of Economics and Business Universitas Airlangga (FEB UNAIR) conducted an industrial visit to PT Cargill Indonesia, one of the leading cocoa processing companies operating globally. This activity was attended by students taking the Operations Strategy course, as an in-depth study of material related to the implementation of operating systems and supply chain management in the manufacturing industry. The student group was led by the lecturer in charge of the course, Prof. Indrianawati Usman, and lecturers from the Operations Management Cluster including, Dr. Yetty Dwi Lestari, Dr. Tuwanku Aria Auliandri, Dr. Febriana Wurjaningrum, and Dunga Dwi Barinta, MM.

The group's arrival was warmly welcomed by Jeffry Pradana, Warehouse & Inventory Manager of Cargill Cocoa Gresik. In the opening session, Jeffry explained Cargill Indonesia's strategic position in the global cocoa supply chain. This multinational company is headquartered in Jakarta and operates several production facilities in Indonesia, with the Cocoa Processing Factory in the Maspion Industrial Estate, Gresik as one of the main production centers.
Students received a comprehensive presentation on cocoa supply chain management, starting from the procurement of quality cocoa beans, aspects of supply sustainability, to the distribution of final products to various export destination countries. The presentation then continued with an explanation of the factory's operating system that prioritizes efficiency, traceability, and compliance with international food safety standards. In the next session, students were invited to explore the flow of the cocoa production process which is carried out in an integrated manner. The process begins with the intake of cocoa beans from various producing regions, then continues to the sorting and mixing stages to obtain the right quality according to product needs. Next, the cocoa beans go through a grinding and pressing process to produce Cocoa Cake, Cocoa Powder, and Cocoa Butter.
To enhance the learning experience, the group then toured the production area. With strict safety and hygiene protocols in place, students witnessed firsthand how each stage of operations is carried out using modern technology and a structured quality control system. This activity provided a closer understanding of the cocoa processing industry and emphasized the Department of Management FEB UNAIR's commitment to implementing experiential learning and contributing to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4 (Quality Education) and SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure). Students are expected to be able to integrate operations management theory learned in the classroom with real-world industrial management practices, while fostering a spirit of innovation, professionalism, and readiness to enter the global business landscape.
