

Surabaya, Monday, August 25, 2025 – Faculty of Economics and Business Universitas Airlangga (FEB UNAIR) held a guest lecture with Prof. Dr. Khurram Shahzad, Professor of Economics & Finance – Minhaj University Lahore (MUL), on Monday, August 25, 2025 in Room 207, FEB UNAIR.
In his lecture, “An Unfinished Agenda? Islamic Economics and the Alleviation of Poverty—Challenges and Proposals for Resolution,” Prof. Shahzad highlighted the role of Islamic economics in addressing poverty, emphasizing its potential to offer sustainable and inclusive solutions. He discussed practical strategies for poverty alleviation, reviewed gaps in current approaches, and proposed policy measures applicable to Indonesia and other Muslim-majority countries.
This guest lecture session was attended by FEB UNAIR students who demonstrated high enthusiasm for exploring evidence-based approaches to inclusive development. The discussion not only enriched their academic understanding but also prompted reflection on the relevance of Islamic economic principles in addressing real-world socioeconomic challenges.
