GUEST LECTURE: EXPLORING THE SOCIOECONOMIC IMPACT OF INDONESIA'S VOCATIONAL SCHOOL EXPANSION

(FEB NEWS) Surabaya, Thursday 18 September 2025 – The Department of Economics, Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Airlangga, held a Guest Lecture entitled "Vocational Education for Whom? The Socioeconomic Impact of Indonesia's Vocational School Expansion" on Thursday, September 18, 2025, at Miendrowo Hall, 4th Floor of the Main Building, Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Airlangga., Surabaya.

The event began with welcoming remarks from Prof. Rossanto Dwi Handoyo, SE, M.Si., Ph.D., Head of the Economics Department, Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Airlangga.

The lecture was delivered by Noa Yokogawa from the Graduate School of International Cooperation Studies, Kobe University, Japan, and moderated by Magdalena Triasih Dumauli, SE, M.Ec., Ph.D. The session was attended by students and faculty members of FEB Universitas Airlangga.

In her presentation, Noa Yokogawa provided evidence-based insights into the intended beneficiaries and socioeconomic consequences of Indonesia's vocational education expansion. He highlighted key findings related to equity of access, employment outcomes, and the broader economic impacts of vocational training programs. The moderator complemented the discussion by offering perspectives on how vocational education aligns with Indonesia's development objectives and labor market demands.

The guest lecture underscored the importance of targeted educational policies that balance workforce development with social equity. For students and participants, the session offered valuable knowledge and broadened their understanding of the complex relationship between education policy and socioeconomic development in Indonesia.
