FEB UNAIR Successfully held ICEB 2025: Integrating Ethics and Technology for Sustainable Social Impacts

(FEB NEWS) — The Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Airlangga (FEB UNAIR) has reaffirmed its existence as an international academic institution through the successful holding of the 9th International Conference and Ph.D. Colloquium for Economics and Business (ICEB 2025) on June 3–4, 2025, at Campus B, Universitas Airlangga, Surabaya.

This prestigious international conference, themed "The Ethics-Economy Nexus: Harnessing Technology for Sustainable Social Impact," focused on the role of technology in supporting sustainable social development through an ethical economic approach. More than 200 participants from 15 countries attended, both in person and online, including academics, doctoral students, practitioners, and policymakers in economics and business.

The ICEB 2025 activity was officially opened by the Dean of FEB UNAIR, Prof. Dr. Dian Agustia, SE, M.Si., Ak., who in her remarks emphasized the importance of integration between science and ethical values ​​in facing increasingly complex global challenges. "In the current digital era and technological disruption, ethics must be the main foundation so that economic progress can provide fair and sustainable benefits for all levels of society," emphasized Prof. Dian, while underlining the role of higher education as agents of social change and sustainable development.

The conference also featured two distinguished keynote speakers: the Vice Rector for Human Resources Universitas Airlangga, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Madyan, SE, M.Si., M.Fin., and Mr. Seto Wardono from the Indonesia Deposit Insurance Corporation (LPS). In his keynote address, Prof. Madyan emphasized that international and cross-sector collaboration is key to creating inclusive and sustainable economic solutions. He also highlighted the importance of building synergies between the use of technology, the application of ethical values, and strengthening human resource capacity in responding to the challenges of global economic transformation.

They discussed a variety of topics ranging from sustainability governance, technological innovation in business, global finance, to Islamic economics.

ICEB 2025 not only serves as a platform for presenting the latest research findings, but also provides a platform for doctoral students in the Ph.D. Colloquium to receive direct input from global experts. Academic discussions take place in four parallel panel sessions, facilitating the exchange of ideas across countries, cultures, and disciplines.

FEB UNAIR's commitment to sustainability extends beyond academic discussions. Through the International Community Service program, ICEB 2025 participants are involved in community service activities targeting Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) fostered by the Surabaya City Government.

The MSME actors received direct education from lecturers from within and outside the country (Dr. Lailan Tawila Berampu, SE, M.Sc. from Riau University, Prof. Dr. Gancar Candra Premananto from Universitas Airlangga, Lilik Rohmawati, SE, M.Sc. from Diponegoro University, Dr. Luh Gde Meydianawathi, SE, M.Sc. from Udayana University, and Dr. Vasilios Stouraitis from Glasgow Caledonian University, UK), on various matters of business certification, application of business ethics, utilization of technology, to digitalization. This activity became a space for discussion and education for micro business actors in order to increase the competitiveness of their businesses.

The ICEB 2025 series closed with an appreciation and reflection session delivered by the Vice Dean I of FEB UNAIR, Dr. Wisnu Wibowo, SE, MA. In his speech, Dr. Wisnu expressed his deep appreciation and gratitude to all speakers, participants, academics, and partners who have contributed to the success of this conference. He also emphasized the importance of continued collaboration and advocacy on policies, practices, and partnerships that encourage a more inclusive and resilient economic and social future.

"Together, we are part of a crucial movement to create a more sustainable and inclusive future. May we continue to be drivers of policies, practices, and partnerships that uphold sustainability and resilience," said Dr. Wisnu at the closing of ICEB 2025.

He also announced the Best Paper Awards for three selected papers deemed superior in terms of originality, scientific rigor, and potential impact on sustainable development, both in theory and practice. Two of these papers will be published in the reputable international journal Asian Journal of Accounting Research (Q2), and one in the national journal SINTA-1. FEB UNAIR also nominated 12 papers for publication in various SINTA-indexed journals.

Held annually since 2017, the International Conference and Ph.D. Colloquium for Economics and Business (ICEB) has become a regular agenda of FEB UNAIR to strengthen international research collaboration. FEB UNAIR itself is one of the leading economics faculties in Indonesia, actively contributing to the development of science and strengthening the social and economic capacity of the community.

With the end of ICEB 2025, FEB UNAIR has reaffirmed itself as a center of academic excellence that integrates science, ethics, and technology to build a better future, not only for Indonesia, but also for the global community.
