FEB UNAIR STUDENTS WIN BRONZE MEDAL AT THE 3RD IIFO INTERNATIONAL EVENT IN Türkiye

Students of the Islamic Economics Study Program, Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) Universitas Airlangga have once again achieved success on the international stage through the prestigious event The 3rd International Islamic Finance Olympiad (IIFO) which was held on July 17–20, 2025 at KTO Karatay Universitesi, Konya, Turkey.

This competition serves as a strategic platform for students from various countries to explore and apply Islamic financial concepts through three main categories: Poster Competition, Knowledge Competition, and Muamalat Interactive Game (MIG) Competition.

One of the most eye-catching competition branches is the Muamalat Interactive Game (MIG), an educational board game that integrates Islamic economic theory with real-world simulations. In this game, participants are challenged to undergo a 30-day economic simulation with Sharia-based financial decisions, such as purchasing a house with a Murabahah contract, leasing a vehicle with an Ijarah contract, and investing in gold through a Mudharabah scheme. The game also contains hereafter values, such as self-reflection, zakat, and spiritual checkpoints, making MIG not just a competition, but a medium for the internalization of holistic Islamic values.

Nine student delegates from Universitas Airlangga participated in the competition after undergoing a rigorous internal selection process and several weeks of intensive training, both online and offline. They were divided into two teams: UNAIR 1 and UNAIR 2, and then grouped into a multinational group. Cross-cultural collaboration was a challenge in itself.

This hard work paid off. The UNAIR student team won a Bronze Medal in the Group Muamalat Interactive Game (MIG) Competition category. This achievement demonstrates the students' ability to integrate Islamic economic theory with ethical and spiritual-based decision-making practices.

The team members who won the Bronze Medal are as follows:

Jesyca Aprilina Natasya (Team Leader) – Islamic Economics 2022
Abu Shidqi Alhafiz – Islamic Economics 2023
Alwi Muharam Fuady – Islamic Economics 2023
Ayasha Dheiba Masudi – Islamic Economics 2022
Dixon Muhammad Djohan – Islamic Economics 2022
Muhammad Rifki Ivan Alfizar – Islamic Economics 2022
Najwa Adinda Eufril – Islamic Economics 2023
RA Ratu Intan Zumala – Islamic Economics 2023

"This MIG is unique because it combines spiritual and professional aspects. We are not only required to be intellectually intelligent, but also emotionally and spiritually wise. That's what makes this game challenging and meaningful. Bringing home a medal for UNAIR is an honor, but the experience we gained is far more valuable," said Team Leader, Jesyca Aprilina Natasya.

This achievement demonstrates that students of the Islamic Economics Study Program at FEB UNAIR not only excel academically but also possess global competitiveness, collaborative skills, and a commitment to applying Islamic economic principles contextually. Furthermore, this achievement strengthens the contribution of the younger generation in driving civilized and sustainable economic transformation globally.
