Students of the Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Airlangga (FEB UNAIR) who are members of Peduli UMK Vol. 2 carried out a series of community service activities entitled Digitalization of Surabaya UMK Through Google Maps to Gresik School Visits. This program is a collaboration between FEB UNAIR and the Business Competition Supervisory Commission (KPPU) Regional Office IV Surabaya, as a form of synergy between the academic world and state institutions in encouraging the progress of Micro and Small Enterprises (UMK) while increasing access to higher education for high school students.
The program will run from July to early August 2025, targeting two primary targets: MSEs in Surabaya and high school students at SMAN 1 Gresik and SMAN 1 Kebomas. The program is designed to address the challenges MSEs face in the digital era and provide college education to the younger generation.
The first phase of the activity focused on collecting data on MSEs for inclusion in Google Maps. This step aims to make it easier for consumers to find business locations and information online. Despite facing obstacles, such as businesses being closed during the survey, the student team successfully re-registered three MSEs, allowing them to now appear optimally on Google Maps.
The second stage was creating a digital catalog using the Canva platform. The catalog featured the MSMEs' food and service menus and was linked to Google Maps through photos and business descriptions. Although some MSMEs operated as franchises with independent systems, the student team contributed by adding catalog links for business owners and potential customers.
In addition to digitalizing UMK (Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises) programs, students also held campus outreach events at two leading high schools in Gresik Regency. The event introduced study programs at FEB UNAIR, including Development Economics, Management, Accounting, and Islamic Economics, while also sharing information about organizational life and career prospects for graduates. The students' enthusiasm was evident in the numerous questions they asked, with more than two participants in each class. To accommodate their interest, the team held a surprise quiz to fairly determine prize winners.
This program demonstrates students' concrete contribution to supporting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). SDG 1 (No Poverty) is realized through empowering MSEs to reach the digital market. SDG 4 (Quality Education) is implemented through campus outreach. SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth) is achieved through online MSE promotion, while SDG 17 (Partnerships to Achieve the Goals) is reflected in the collaboration between FEB UNAIR and KPPU Regional Office IV Surabaya.
