UNAIR NEWS – Another proud achievement was achieved by the academic community Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR). This time, Eko Fajar Cahyono, SE, ME, a lecturer at the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) UNAIR, won first place in the 2022 East Java Province Bank Indonesia Branch Library Literacy Festival Book Review Competition on Sunday, November 6, 2022.
Eko, as he's known, told the media crew that this was his first time participating in a book review competition, making it a challenge. Nevertheless, he added, he was very grateful that his first work had won.
"There were around ninety participants in this book review competition, so I was quite nervous about whether I could win. Thankfully, I did, even though this was my first time," said the lecturer in the Department of Islamic Economics on Friday (November 11, 2022).

Furthermore, the UNAIR FEB lecturer, who is currently studying at Putra Malaysia University, expressed his enthusiasm for participating in the competition. Furthermore, he added, the book being reviewed discusses monetary policy, which perfectly aligns with his educational background. Eko explained that the book is titled "A Scientific Study of Current Central Bank Policies From Theory to Practice.".
"It turns out this book is a report on a workshop held by Bank Indonesia regarding the latest central bank policies," he explained.
Based on the book, Eko continued, the problem that challenges all nations around the world is the financial or monetary crisis. According to classical theory, he said, this occurs due to the regulation of the money supply and inflation. However, he continued, today, it is greatly influenced by the stability of the financial system due to the influence of globalization or an open economy.
"An open economy has a lot of capital flows, money flows, incoming and outgoing flows of funds and what is dangerous is when there is a large and massive withdrawal of capital in one country, it can shake the stability of the financial system in that country," said Eko.
This book, Eko continued, is unique because it was written by practicing central bankers from several countries. Furthermore, he added, it was edited directly by Bank Indonesia Governor Perry Warjiyo.
"So, this book was written by the person who did it or the regulator himself, so the author's experience is a plus in this book," he explained.
In closing, Eko hopes that other educational institutions, particularly UNAIR, will emulate similar competitions. Based on his experience, this competition can encourage reading, which is undoubtedly beneficial for the future.
"This book review competition can stimulate interest in reading because by reading we can gain knowledge, information, and values that can be useful for our lives," he explained.
