Jakarta, Wednesday, August 6, 2025 – In a concrete effort to support the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially SDG 1 (No Poverty), SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), and SDG 17 (Partnerships to Achieve the Goals), the Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Airlangga (FEB UNAIR) held a community service activity (pengmas) entitled “Education on Healthy Business Competition and MSME Partnerships”. This activity took place from July 7–August 8, 2025 in the DKI Jakarta area and its surroundings, in collaboration with the Business Competition Supervisory Commission (KPPU).
This community service activity was initiated by a team of FEB UNAIR students, one of whom is Indria Prawitarahmi from the Undergraduate Management Study Program – class of 2023, together with her supervisor, Zahrin Haznina Qalby, SM, M.Sc., and full support from the KPPU. This program stems from concerns about the lack of understanding of MSMEs regarding fair business competition regulations and brand identity management. Several assisted MSMEs such as Bila's Factory, Dapur Zamzam, and Pelangi Thinner Producers face the same challenges, namely a lack of understanding about partnerships and their vulnerability to unfair business practices.
Through this educational community service on healthy business competition and MSME brand identity, Indria developed a systematic program. The stages began with a pre-test to assess MSMEs' initial understanding, followed by interactive outreach, supported by materials from the KPPU (Commission for the Commission) covering the role of the KPPU, the principles of fair partnership and healthy competition, and strategies for building a strong brand identity in the digital age.
Evaluation was conducted through a post-test which showed a significant increase in participants' understanding, especially in distinguishing between healthy and unhealthy business practices and developing initial branding strategies.
In addition to education, Indria also provides tangible products that MSMEs can use immediately, such as new logos, simple website designs, social media accounts, promotional brochures, memorandums of understanding (MoUs), and e-commerce platforms. All products are tailored to the needs of each MSME.
According to Indria Prawitarahmi, the involvement of FEB UNAIR students in the entire community service process, from initial research, material preparation, implementation, to evaluation, has a double impact: increasing the knowledge capacity of MSMEs and concrete support in the form of business tools.
Collaboration with the KPPU is a concrete manifestation of the implementation of SDG 17, demonstrating the importance of cross-sector partnerships to build an inclusive and sustainable business ecosystem.
