The Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Airlangga (FEB Unair) once again held an international conference entitled the International Conference on Sustainable Environmental Development and Economical Growth (ISEDEG) on Thursday (1/8/2019) at the FEB Unair Building.
The conference, attended by academics from within and outside the country, also brought together scientists from various disciplines from Taiwan, Germany, and Australia to share views on sustainable and environmentally conscious economic growth with the main theme "Enhancing Sustainable Environmental Development and Economical Growth.".
Nisful Laila, the chief executive and Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Business, explained that what makes this conference different from others is its cross-disciplinary themes covering economics, energy, and the environment, enabling academics to collaborate to solve societal problems with a multidisciplinary, solution-oriented approach.
"We want academics, the public, and public policymakers to collaborate in finding the best solutions to sustainable economic development issues," Nisful emphasized during an interview with media crews at the conference.
Opened with a keynote speech from Prof. Chun-Ping Chang from Taiwan, the conference received 125 papers from within and outside the country for presentation on various topics including maritime economics, renewable energy economics, environmental conservation, and even topics such as air quality management, which are currently hotly discussed in the media.
Furthermore, the best papers at this conference, selected since last June, will be submitted for publication in the proceedings of a Scopus-indexed journal. According to Nisful, this interdisciplinary theme has presented many high-quality papers on interesting topics, such as the paper entitled "TrashMart," or waste management transactions as an innovative solution to address environmental issues in Surabaya.
Nisful believes this conference will have a significant impact on Unair and Indonesia. "This conference is an effort to further solidify Unair's path to becoming a world-class university while also providing the best solutions to sustainable development issues in Indonesia specifically and globally," he concluded.
