(FEB NEWS) Acts of sexual violence can happen to anyone, by anyone, and anywhere, even in educational environments, including on campuses, which are sometimes prone to acts of sexual harassment and violence.
To that end, the Faculty of Economics and Business Universitas Airlangga emphasizes the importance of raising awareness about sexual violence prevention from an early age, among students, lecturers, educational staff, and others on campus. This is because prevention is far better than cure.
Starting from the Regulation of the Minister of Education, Culture, Research and Technology (Permendikbudristek) Number 30 of 2021 concerning the Prevention and Handling of Sexual Violence in Higher Education Environments, which requires the existence of a Task Force for the Prevention and Handling of Sexual Violence (Satgas PPKS) in each Higher Education Institution, Universitas Airlangga has also formed SATGAS PPKS UNAIR.
For this reason, Universitas Airlanggahas conducted socialization of the PPKS Task Force in various work units within Universitas Airlangga and on Tuesday, March 7, 2023, the socialization was carried out in the Fadjar Notonagoro Hall, 2nd Floor of the Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Airlangga.
Dr. Faizal Kurniawan, SH., MH., LL.M. from the UNAIR PPKS Task Force stated that, thankfully, there is zero sexual violence at FEB UNAIR. Although the Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology Regulation Number 30 of 2021 is in place, it is deemed insufficient to ensure that Universitas Airlangga achieves zero cases of sexual harassment and violence. Therefore, the next step in the Permendikbudristek is the formation of task forces in each faculty.
Vice Dean I of FEB UNAIR, Dr. Wisnu Wibowo welcomed the embryo of the formation of the PPKS Task Force in the faculty, because like the Emergency Unit (UGD) in a Hospital, the PPKS Task Force in each faculty will become satellites that will strengthen the UNAIR PPKS Task Force, as well as the UNAIR Help Center which has also played a significant role.
The socialization further emphasized the importance of having a partner, especially peers, in preventing and addressing sexual violence. Also present at the socialization were Firli Imansa (from the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Airlangga University) and Dewi Septiniya (Faculty of Nursing, Airlangga University), members of the student-led PPKS Task Force.
Universitas Airlangga together with FEB UNAIR is committed to not tolerating any form of sexual violence, whether it is considered "mild" or "serious".
This outreach activity aims to create a campus environment safe from sexual violence. It aims to increase knowledge and awareness among the academic community through education on sexual violence prevention, victim-centered treatment, and fostering student morale and a campus environment that fosters excellence with morality. Furthermore, it is hoped that students and the entire academic community at Ailangga University will continue to uphold these principles in their social lives.
