FEB UNAIR AND IAI KAPD HOLD A NATIONAL WORKSHOP: STRENGTHENING THE ACCOUNTING CURRICULUM THROUGH THE INTEGRATION OF OBE AND THE LAMEMBA SUPERIOR ACCREDITATION INSTRUMENT

Surabaya, Monday, July 28 – Faculty of Economics and Business Universitas Airlangga (FEB UNAIR) in collaboration with the Indonesian Accountants Association – Educator Accountant Compartment (IAI KAPd) held a Workshop on Accounting Study Program Curriculum: Integration in Outcome-Based Education (OBE) & LAMEMBA Excellent Accreditation Instrument . This activity lasted for two days, July 28–29, 2025, at the Fadjar Notonegoro Hall, 2nd Floor of the FEB UNAIR Building, and was attended by more than 141 participants from various Accounting Study Programs throughout Indonesia.

The event was officially opened by Prof. Dr. Dian Agustia, SE., MSi., Ak., CMA., CA., Dean of FEB UNAIR and Chair of IAI KAPd. In her remarks, she expressed her appreciation for the presence of national leaders and speakers, and emphasized that the integration of the curriculum with the Outcome-Based Education (OBE) system and the fulfillment of LAMEMBA accreditation standards is a strategic step that not only boosts academic quality, but also becomes a form of institutional commitment in providing relevant, professional, and globally competitive accounting education. According to her, the characteristics of the accounting profession which is based on ethics, compliance, and international standards such as the International Education Standard (IES) , demands an adaptive and integrated curriculum update.

The Keynote Speech was delivered by Dr. Ardan Adiperdana, Ak., MBA., CFrA., CA., FCMA., CGMA, as Chairman of the National Board of the Indonesian Institute of Accountants, who highlighted the importance of synergy between the academic world, regulators, and the profession in addressing the complex challenges facing the accounting profession today. He emphasized that the implementation of OBE and integration with the LAMEMBA accreditation instrument will make accounting graduates more resilient in terms of technical competence, critical thinking, social sensitivity, and professional ethics. Dr. Ardan also emphasized the need to strengthen the accounting education ecosystem in Indonesia, considering that more than 65 million entities, including cooperatives, MSMEs, BUMN, and BLU, require professional accounting services. He also encouraged universities to join the IAI Affiliated Campus Aspiring Professional Accountant Festival 2025 program as an effort to build a future generation of accountants who are competent and internationally competitive.

The first material session was delivered by Prof. Dr. Ina Primiana, SE., MT., Chair of the LAMEMBA Executive Board, who explained the important transformations in the Instrument for Excellence Accreditation (IAU) . Prof. Ina emphasized that the IAU approach now combines retrospective and prospective , allowing study programs to improve themselves within a period of up to two years through the LAMEMBA Development Center (LDC) . She also highlighted the importance of evidence-based documentation ( evidence-based assessment ), integration between DED and DKPS, and an emphasis on fulfilling dimensions such as mission, governance, tridharma, and learning assurance. Amidst changing industry demands and technological developments, she also reminded the importance of integrating technologies such as AI, strengthening academic services and student careers, and the importance of active participation from practicing lecturers and stakeholders in the formation of a curriculum based on market needs.

After the break time session, the workshop continued with the presentation of the second material led directly by Prof. Dr. Dian Agustia, Ak., CA, along with the Lecturer Forum Team of the IAI KAPd Accounting Undergraduate Study Program. In this session, participants were invited to understand the technicalities of compiling a minimum curriculum for an accounting study program that integrates OBE and LAMEMBA accreditation instruments. The discussion was active, where lecturers and study program representatives shared good practices and challenges in implementing a curriculum based on learning outcomes. This material is designed so that participants can immediately implement curriculum updates that are in accordance with the International Education Standards (IES) , while responding to the strategic needs of the accounting profession at the national and global levels.

Through the strategic collaboration between IAI KAPd and FEB UNAIR in organizing this workshop, it is hoped that there will be an acceleration in improving the quality of accounting education that is evenly distributed throughout Indonesia. Strengthening the OBE-based curriculum and adjusting to LAMEMBA standards will not only have an impact on fulfilling the quality of higher education, but also contribute directly to community development by creating professional accountants who are ready to support financial transparency, good governance, and accountability in the public and private sectors. This is in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) , especially goal 4 on quality education and goal 8 on decent work and economic growth.
