"One paddle, two birds with one stone," this proverb describes the steps taken by Universitas Airlangga Professional Accountancy Education (PPAk) student, affectionately known as Mai. Her status as an Accounts Receivables Accountant at PT ABIM led Mai to decide to intern at the company where she works. One of the growing private ready-mix concrete companies in Surabaya, Mai chose to contribute and innovate.
"Fortunately, I have an accounting background and experience working in a tax consultancy, so my skills and abilities have been very helpful in this internship. The data, documents, and systems that I previously had were still not up to par with those of my competitors, so this is where the challenges I faced lay," she said.
As an Airlangga Knight, armed with the knowledge gained during her studies, Mai is determined to contribute and provide benefits wherever she is, including at her internship. "I strive to improve and make all the work I do better than before. I also discussed several times with my superiors to discuss weaknesses in internal control in my division and possible solutions," she said.
The Accounting Professional Education (PPAk) Universitas Airlangga has a compulsory course in the form of an internship for its students in semester 2. This internship activity aims to improve students' abilities through the matching of knowledge obtained in PPAk with conditions in the work environment in various fields relevant to the accounting profession. In addition, this internship activity is a means to accommodate the Regulation of the Minister of Research, Technology and Higher Education concerning National Standards for Higher Education Article 14 paragraph (6), Article 14 paragraph (7) and to fulfill the International Education Standard, namely IES No. 5. concerning Practical experience requirements.
This internship program is a structured intracurricular activity in the form of work practice activities for Accounting Professional Program (PPAk) students in certain institutions, related to the field of accounting, both in private and relevant government institutions. In addition to accommodating existing regulations, this activity is also a form of support from FEB UNAIR in implementing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) point 8.
