UNAIR NEWS – Universitas Airlangga continues to encourage and support activities oriented towards Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Therefore, on Friday, December 2, 2022, a closing ceremony was held, a concrete demonstration of the SDGs implementation of the Airlangga Interdisciplinary Learning Program (SAIL Program). The event's success was driven by collaboration between the Faculty of Economics and Business, the Faculty of Vocational Studies, and Universitas Teknologi Mara Malaysia.
Taking place in the Fajar Hall of FEB UNAIR, the event was attended by representatives of several UNAIR students. The event opened with a sharing session titled "Business Communication for Future Careers." The first topic was presented by Pn. Suhaila Kasim from the UiTM Malaysia team. The material covered skills needed for employment. Suhaila explained that research data indicates the Top 10 Skills for 2022.
“Ultimately, the core skills needed are critical thinking, creativity, and having heart,” said Suhaila Kasim.
Suhaila continued, explaining that the focus of the discussion was on Torrance, a modern creative theorist who has made significant contributions to education and inspired world figures. His experience as a teacher revealed that many students who struggle in school can also become successful. According to Torrance, there are four creative elements necessary for success: fluency, flexibility, originality, and elaboration.
In the second presentation, Dr. Idris Osman, also from the UiTM Malaysia team, delivered the keynote address. This time, the discussion shifted to intercultural communication. Communication is a vital part of culture, and vice versa. Intercultural communication occurs when people from different cultures interact with each other to build relationships.
Idris added that human interaction is also driven by the development of globalization. The advancement of globalization increases global market competition and creates creative business problem-solving. Intercultural barriers can arise due to anxiety, negative assumptions, tribalism, stereotypes, and racial discrimination.
Potential for Collaboration
: The summer course offers potential for collaboration between participants from various countries focused on the SDGs. Furthermore, the SAIL Program represents a concrete manifestation of SDG collaboration at the university level. The series of events concluded with remarks from UiTM Malaysia lecturers and a representative from the Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Business.
"I hope this year's summer course program can provide opportunities for students and increase collaboration between universities in the field of education specifically focused on the SDGs," said Dean of FEB UNAIR, Prof. Dr. Dian Agustia, SE, MSi, Ak. (*)
