(Feb News) Monday, March 4, 2024 - Located in the Soepoyo Hall, 3rd Floor FEB Airlangga University, a CEO of Teaching Series has been held by presenting the Head of the BPS Training Center, Dr. Suntono, SE., MSi. In the session organized by the Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Airlangga (FEB Unair), Dr. Suntono provides enlightenment about the crucial role of statistical data in developing a better Indonesia.

With a theme that inspires the mind, "Statistic for Indonesia: sovereign, advanced, just, and prosperous", Dr. Suntono highlighted the importance of BPS data as a quality statistical foundation for the country. He stressed that the data is not just a number, but the key to moving the welfare of the community.

In this inspirational session, Dr. Suntono shared his insights regarding various aspects of statistics, starting from types of statistics to the importance of interpreting data. One of the important points discussed is changes in the statistical ecosystem, where the provision of statistical data must be adaptive to the demands of the times.

Welcoming the urgency of understanding data holistically, BPS data has characteristics that can be compared with data from other countries. In addition, BPS generally publishes macro data to support development targets, while sectoral data is often created by Ministries/Institutions (K/L) for sectoral policies.

Dr. Suntono also highlighted that, although students generally have an understanding of macro data, they need to improve their ability to interpret data, especially micro data which is able to reveal the deep meaning behind events.

This lecture ended with the delivery of a quote that was aroused by Dr. Suntono, "You can have data without information, but you can't have information without data" (Daniel Keys Moran), summarizing the importance of understanding and interpretation of data in answering future challenges.
