(FEB NEWS) Monday, March 4, 2024 – The CEO Teaching Series was held at the Soepoyo Hall, 3rd Floor, FEB UNAIR, featuring the Head of the BPS Training Center, Dr. Suntono, SE., MSi. In this session, organized by the Faculty of Economics and Business Universitas Airlangga (FEB UNAIR), Dr. Suntono provided insight into the crucial role of statistical data in building a better Indonesia.
With the thought-provoking theme, "Statistics for Indonesia: Sovereign, Advanced, Just, and Prosperous," Dr. Suntono highlighted the importance of BPS data as the foundation for quality statistics for the country. He emphasized that data is not just numbers, but the key to driving public welfare.
In this inspiring session, Dr. Suntono shared his insights on various aspects of statistics, from the types of statistics to the importance of interpreting data. One key point discussed was the changing statistical ecosystem, where statistical data provision must adapt to the demands of the times.
Addressing the urgency of holistic data understanding, BPS data is comparable with data from other countries. Furthermore, BPS generally publishes macroeconomic data to support development targets, while sectoral data is often produced by ministries/agencies (K/L) for sectoral policies.
Dr. Suntono also highlighted that, although students generally have an understanding of macro data, they need to improve their ability to interpret data, especially micro data that can reveal the deeper meaning behind events.
The lecture concluded with a moving quote by Dr. Suntono, “You can have data without information, but you can't have information without data” (Daniel Keys Moran), summarizing the importance of understanding and interpreting data in addressing future challenges.
This year's CEO Mengajar Series event is not only a learning platform, but also a momentum for students and the community to work together to activate the role of statistical data in realizing a more sovereign, advanced, just, and prosperous Indonesia.
