CARE FOR UMK VOL. 2: UPGRADING TOGETHER, RESILIENT UMK, AND A BRIGHT YOUNG GENERATION

The Community Service Program "Caring for MSMEs Vol. 2" was held again by providing intensive mentoring to 15 Micro and Small Enterprises (MSEs) in Surabaya, especially in the Gubeng and Tambaksari areas. This activity took place from Saturday (12/7/2025) to Friday (18/7/2025), initiated by the Friends of UMK Surabaya team from the Accounting Study Program, Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) Universitas Airlangga in collaboration with the Business Competition Supervisory Commission (KPPU). The activity provided supplies in the form of education on healthy business competition, managerial training, and the use of digital technology such as the use of QRIS and social media marketing strategies.

MSME Empowerment Mission in Surabaya:
Peduli UMK Vol. 2 is located in Surabaya, specifically in the Gubeng and Tambaksari areas. These areas were chosen because they have significant potential in the MSME sector, but still face business management challenges and a limited understanding of competition regulations in this digital era.

Five Accounting students from the 2023 class of the Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Airlangga (FEB UNAIR): Ester Meralda, Putri Ekklesia, Azkiyah Haryunita, Frederica Emmanuela, and Melysa Kartika, formed a team called Sahabat UMK, which focuses on mentoring micro and small businesses. This activity took place under the direction of Ms. Damara Ardelia, the field supervisor. Through this program, they encouraged MSEs to be more adaptive to digital developments, both in marketing and financial management.

Mentoring Process: Needs Identification to Digitalization
The initial stage of mentoring begins with a survey and interviews to map the problems and needs of each MSE. Through intensive discussions with business owners, the Sahabat UMK Surabaya team prioritizes the most relevant solutions. Each student is then responsible for implementing one concrete solution based on the problems faced by their MSE partners.

From the results of the survey and interviews regarding the problems faced by the assisted MSMEs, various assisted MSMEs have their own challenges, namely:

  1. Pak Ismail's Fried Duck UMK (Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises) faced difficulties because it lacked digital payment methods, limiting transactions to cash. The team helped develop a QRIS solution to make transactions more convenient and in line with the cashless trend.
  2. Furthermore, UMK H&H, Pastel Krezz, Warung Lesehan Mbak Yu, Bebek Goreng Pak Syarifuddin, Es Degan Bu Candra, Es Bu Mustiani, and Warung Makan Bu Itus Tambaksari faced obstacles in promoting their businesses due to the lack of visual media. Therefore, each student designed seven professionally and attractive business banners to serve as promotional tools.
  3. On the other hand, Warung Nik Nung and Warung Bu Wiwik lacked a clear business identity, making branding difficult to recognize. Therefore, the solution was to create logos and product labels to give their businesses a strong identity.
  4. Finally, Zaman Food faced challenges with its business, which was difficult for customers to find online. To address this, students helped add the business to Google Maps, making it more accessible to consumers.

However, all of these MSEs also have limited digital marketing knowledge. Therefore, the students taught them how to create promotional content for social media and compiled a practical guidebook containing important information, such as steps for creating QRIS (Qualifying Receipt System), obtaining business permits, obtaining halal certification, and recording simple financial reports. This way, MSEs can become more independent in developing their businesses.

From these steps, various tangible achievements were realized. One of them was helping Pak Ismail's Fried Duck business have QRIS as a digital transaction facility. In addition, the team also designed 7 business banners for MSEs H&H, Pastel Krezz, Warung Lesehan Mbak Yu, Bebek Goreng Pak Syarifuddin, Es Degan Bu Candra, Es Bu Mustiani and Warung Makan Bu Itus Tambaksari. Then, the team also created 2 business logos along with product labels for MSEs Warung Nik Nung and Warung Bu Wiwik. Then, the team also added the business to Google Maps to make it easier for customers to find it at MSE Zaman Food. Not stopping there, each MSE is also equipped with the creation of promotional content on social media to expand its marketing reach.

As a form of sustainability, the team has compiled a practical guidebook containing a variety of important information, from the challenges and opportunities for MSEs, steps for creating QRIS, obtaining business permits, obtaining halal certification, and recording simple financial reports. Presented in easy-to-understand language, this guide is expected to be immediately applicable to MSEs in developing their businesses.

Education for the Younger Generation
: In addition to targeting MSMEs, Sahabat UMK also educates students at SMA Negeri 2 Surabaya about entrepreneurial ethics and the importance of healthy business competition. The material presented includes an introduction to the opportunities and challenges of business competition, how to build a business with strong branding, and the digitalization of business in the current era. This step is considered strategic for fostering regulatory awareness and entrepreneurial values from school age, so that these students can become ethical and innovative entrepreneurs.

Real Impact for MSEs and Students:
The "Peduli UMK Vol. 2" program by Sahabat UMK Surabaya has successfully increased the capacity of business actors through practical solutions such as QRIS, branding, digital promotion, and simplified financial recording. MSEs are now better prepared to compete, have sustainable guidance, and expand their market reach. Furthermore, this activity also strengthens collaboration between parties and supports the achievement of the SDGs in the field of sustainable economic growth.

SDGs as the Direction of
FEB UNAIR Student Programs not only focuses on mentoring MSEs, but also held a socialization of SMAN 2 Surabaya. Through this activity, they simultaneously introduced FEB UNAIR and instilled healthy business competition in accordance with the KPPU's direction. Thus, this program is not only a concrete manifestation of the implementation of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education, but also in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially SDG 1 (No Poverty), SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), and SDG 17 (Partnerships to Achieve the Goals).
