The BI Mengajar 2023 event, held as part of the 62nd Anniversary of FEB UNAIR, the 70th Anniversary of Bank Indonesia, and the 78th Anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia, aimed at increasing public economic and central banking literacy, especially those related to Bank Indonesia's duties in maintaining stability and supporting economic growth.
In addition to giving a Public Lecture, Perry Warjiyo, who is also the General Chair of ISEI (Indonesian Economists Association), also inaugurated the Management of the ISEI Surabaya Branch, East Java Coordinator for the 2023-2026 Period from the Garuda Mukti Hall, Management Office Building, MERR-C Campus, Universitas Airlangga .
Before giving the Public Lecture, Perry Warjiyo, conveyed his congratulations to Dr. Drs. Soni Harsono, MSi., as the Chair of the ISEI Surabaya Branch, East Java Coordinator for the 2023-2026 Period, and also gave 3 messages:
The first message: Advance the economy of East Java.
"How to advance it, in 3 ways too," Perry Warjiyo began giving his suggestions/tips to advance the economy of East Java: 1. Downstreaming agriculture, fisheries, plantations and other aspects. For agriculture, Perry Warjiyo gave an example of how to increase exports of East Javanese spices, not raw. "We have a lot of spices (10% of the world's spices are exported from East Java), such as ginger, but it has not been processed by UNAIR, and the task of the East Java Provincial Government is to build its offtakers; 2. digitalization, where 67-70% of Indonesia's population are millennials, for marketing, packaging and so on; 3. The focus in East Java is the People's Economy. "Let's help the Province of East Java, the people of East Java so that the economy advances, jobs are plentiful, and welfare increases."
Second message: Age may be old, but the ABG spirit must be developed (ISEI as a forum for ABG, the unity/synergy between Academics, Business, and Government). Unite to build the economy of East Java
Third message: Make the Bengkulu Congress a success
During the lecture, Perry Warjiyo conveyed the importance of innovation and creativity in supporting the economic recovery process by optimizing innovation in the policy mix to maintain macroeconomic and financial system stability in order to strengthen national economic resilience and revival.
Perry Warjiyo also shared tips for achieving their goals to the students participating in BI Mengajar, encouraging them to persevere in learning, broaden their horizons and experience in their chosen fields, and to be close to the Creator, as success can only be achieved with the permission of God Almighty.
Perry Warjiyo emphasized that achieving high, sustainable, and inclusive growth requires support in addition to innovation and creativity, as well as close coordination between central bank policies, fiscal policies, and structural reforms as a form of synergy within the national policy mix for an Advanced Indonesia.
Appreciation was given by the Deputy Governor of East Java – Dr. Emil Elistiano Dardak, that in 2022, as Governor of BI – Perry Warjiyo successfully faced pressure and maintained so that the Indonesian economy could grow well in 2022, and East Java also contributed at that time.
Meanwhile, for the Management of the Surabaya Branch of ISEI East Java Coordinator, who had just been inaugurated, Emil Elestianto Dardak expressed his hope, "Hopefully ISEI will be given success. All economics graduates can then answer the challenges of the times together, and East Java will certainly also become a province whose growth and progress can be supported by all economics graduates."
