“What I do is actually relatively similar to what my friends do. What makes it different is how, during this study, I learned the meaning of the word "painful." I'm someone who is willing to put in the effort to learn. No matter how difficult the material, I always strive to learn as much as possible..."
Gery Lusiano Firmansyah's enthusiasm for learning successfully brought the Ngawi-born man to the pinnacle of success at the end of his college years, namely being named the Best Graduate of the Faculty of Economics and Business for the June 2021 period.
According to Gery, who has now graduated in Accounting, he doesn't have any special tips for studying. In fact, Gery admits that what he does is actually relatively the same as what his friends do. However, Gery feels that what makes him different is how he understands the meaning of the word painful during the learning process on campus. "I am someone who is willing to put in the effort in studying. No matter how difficult the material is, I always try to learn as much as possible, asking friends, seeking input from seniors. And most importantly, I am willing to read and willing to learn on my own," said Gery. According to the graduate, the difficulties he had to go through later formed the mentality and character of a fighter in him.
Having a GPA of 4.00/4.00, the man whose hobby is playing soccer feels that his perfect GPA is more than just a number, Gery feels that within that number lies struggle, pain, fatigue, sweat, worry, and other invaluable things. Gery also explained that the perfect GPA is a responsibility to provide meaning or value to the surrounding community about how he is able to convey the knowledge he has gained so that it is useful for others in providing enlightenment.
As the Best Graduate for the June 2021 period, Gery not only excels academically, but is also active in organizations, frequently serving as a delegate, frequently participating in competitions, and enjoying participating in community service activities. Gery was the Vice Chair of the Moslem Students Association of Faculty of Economics and Business (MOSAIC) in 2018 and previously held the position of Secretary General or President of the 2020 Indonesian Accounting Student National Congress. Gery has also been a delegate several times, one of which was the Indonesian delegation at the International Social Business Summer Program (ISBSP) event at Daffodil International University, Dhaka, Bangladesh. In addition, Gery also demonstrated his competitive ability by winning a total of 14 competitions or events at local, national, and international levels. Guided by the tri dharma of higher education, Gery also actively participates in community service, one of which is the Village Product Development (PRODES) work program of HIMA Accounting UNAIR in Pujon village, Malang in 2018.
Talking about the future, Gery has prepared himself before entering the workforce because according to the Best Graduate, thorough preparation is needed to enter the workforce, and he has done this preparation by taking an internship program at PT Berkah Multi Cargo Logistics which is part of PT PELINDO 3 Group for 6 months. In addition to wanting to become a professional accountant , Gery also has an ambition to develop his competencies by continuing his education to the Masters and Doctoral levels and returning to campus and devoting himself to becoming a lecturer one day.
After a memorable college journey, Gery advised other students that while GPA is important, it isn't everything. Gery advised students to use their time in college to develop themselves to the fullest, seize every opportunity, and become role models. "GPA is simply a consequence of a total effort," said the Best Graduate. (BLQ)
