Accounting and Corporate Governance

This course is designed to provide an in-depth understanding of the concepts, principles, structures, and practices of good corporate governance. By examining internal and external governance mechanisms, including boards of directors, audit committees, and the role of auditors, students learn to analyze the relationship between corporate governance and corporate performance. Through case studies and recent empirical research, the course also provides comprehensive knowledge of contemporary corporate governance issues and their implications for business and accounting decisions.

Weekly learning activities include group presentations and discussions. Students’ understanding is assessed through written midterm and final examinations. Achievement of overall learning outcomes is also assessed through a project in the form of a research design or scholarly paper, article, or scientific study prepared using scientific methods (C5, A5, P5). Assessment uses rubrics covering critical and logical thinking, communication, and understanding of course material.
