The MIE Student Association (Hima) held a student gathering in Batu, 21 - 22 October 2017. This event was attended by 32 MIE students from the 2015-2017 class as well as several lecturers such as Dr. Wisnu Wibowo, SE, M.Si, Rumayya Batubara, SE, M.Reg.Dev, Ph.D and Dra. Dyah Wulansari, M.Ec.Dev, Ph.D. This student gathering was held to familiarize and strengthen the relationship between MIE students, as well as to update the latest information related to student affairs. The student gathering was also filled with various events, such as some material from lecturers, intimate evenings, and outbound.

Casual but Serious

The event on the first day was filled with material from the lecturer. The first lecturer who had the opportunity to fill in the material was Dra. Dyah Wulansari, M.Ec.Dev. Wulan started his material by reminding that the latest S2-IE curriculum targets students to penetrate the publications of reputable international journals indexed by ISI, Scopus, and Microsoft Research Journal.

Wulan explained one important trick to penetrate reputable international journals, namely diligently reading journals. By reading a lot of journals, we will also learn layout patterns, how to write well, how to compose sentences, how to write references, etc. One thing that is very important in scientific articles is that the author must be able to write scientific papers that are easy to read and understand, especially in explaining something complicated into something easy to read. Articles must also be to the point and not verbose. Wulan also reminded to immediately start writing from a long time ago, because the process of submitting to reputable international journals takes a long time, between 6 months – 1 year.

The next session was filled by Rumayya Batubara, SE, M.Reg.Dev, Ph.D. In his material, Rumayya introduced the task of 3P (Research and Publication Center), which is to help lecturers and students who will publish scientific papers. 3P also supports research, publications, and supports the management of faculty and departmental journals. In addition, 3P also provides data, surveyors, statistical/econometric training, data processing services and also provides special research assistants for lecturers. Finally, 3P also has a budget that can be used to support various research and publications.

Rumayya then also reminded the target of students to penetrate reputable international journals. The easiest trick to getting articles accepted quickly is to use new theory, new methods, and new data. There are many interesting topics that can be researched, even about myths. Rumayya also explained that the plagiarism threshold for scientific articles is 20-25%.

Exciting Outbound

The second day's event was filled with outbound from EO. Even though the outbound only took place inside the villa where you were staying, the event was still fun and lively. Outbound is held in the courtyard as well as in the swimming pool. The event closed with lunch and a group photo. It is hoped that this event can be held again and become one of the routine agenda of Hima S2-IE. (adle)
