Abstract

Stress is the inability to make psychological, physical and behavioral adjustments to an activity, situation or event with a perceived excessive capacity for demands. The work environment and the competitive lifestyle of a big city can cause stress. This study focused on the effect of the work environment on the stress of the staff of PT. Tirta Investama Surabaya. The working environment in question is the physical environment (room temperature, room lighting, noise, occupant density), groups (relationships with coworkers, relationships with superiors, relationships with subordinates), Individuals (blurring of role ambiguity, role conflicts, excessive workload) and organizational (organizational structure, policy regulations applied). This study aims to determine whether the work environment has a significant influence on the stress of the company's staff either jointly or partially, and to see whether there is a significant difference in stress between staff with type A characteristics and staff with type B characteristics. used in this study is Multiple Regression Analysis and two-average difference test (Independent Sample T Test). The results of this study found that the work environment that has an influence on staff stress at PT. Tirta Investama Surabaya is excessive workload and relationships with coworkers. . Excessive workload contributes the most to stress, this situation occurs because of the increasing number of customers and competitors. Furthermore, this study also found that there was a significant difference in stress between staff with type A characteristics and staff with type B characteristics
