"The intake of the programme required the student candidate to be at least a master degree graduate of any background. For those who are not of Economics and Business background, will be required to attend Matriculation program prior to the start of the semester. Another application requirements is a draft research proposal.

Apart from the administrative requirements, the applicant is also required to take an Academic Potential Test and attend an interview session.".

Teaching & Learning Method

 

Students will experience a wide variety of teaching methods and a range of opportunities for learning. These are designed to facilitate a deeper understanding of the subjects and foster independent learning. Methods include:

·         Lecture

The lecturer is responsible for disseminating the content of the course, with interaction from students. The interaction would appear in the form of questions or comments about what has been presented. This method teaches a body of knowledge to students and allows them to assess or criticize teaching materials.

·         Discussion

The implementation of this learning method can be conducted in forms of which: (i) the lecturer gives several questions, problems, or cases related to the learning material to be discussed by students; and (ii) each student or small group of students present their learning outcomes in front of the class. In this regard, students are responsible and must conduct independently for incorporating scientific knowledge needed to actively take a role in weekly discussions and presentations. Lecturer has a role as a facilitator who supervises and ensures the interactive discussion held. Lecturer also delivers feedbacks on the material presented by students.

·         Seminar

This method requires each student or small group of students to present the research plan as well as research results in front of the peer group and lecturers. Afterwards, the lecturer delivers feedbacks to the students' research plans and results.

·         Tutorials

This method helps students to: (i) gain an in-depth understanding of a particular subject; (ii) develop students' ability to identify and evaluate relevant sources; (iii) developing research designs; (iv) correctly understand the techniques of collecting and processing data and information; (v) develop the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing, effective time management, critical self-assessment; (vi) develop the ability to think and act as a professional in the discipline of economics.

 

Assessment Method

 

A range of formative and summative assessment exercises are designed to enable students to demonstrate and apply knowledge. Methods of assessment include:

·      Written examinations

Written exams aim to test students' ability to understand the course materials, which have been given. Written exams are conducted twice, which are mid-term test and final exams that are compulsory for the students.

·      Exercises and problem set

The exercises and problem set are the collection of questions that must be answered by each student in each course. Exercise in the form of practice questions for each course will be given in the end of the lecture or while the lecture is in progress. The problem set contains questions that help students to fulfil the learning outcomes. Problem sets are prepared by a team of lecturers who manage each course. Problem sets are discussed in tutorial activities that must be attended by every student

·      Projects

Assessment in the form of projects could be individual or in group activity. The assessment is generally carried out on several aspects including the suitability of the topic, quantity and quality of references, ability to explain the understanding of knowledge/theory and its application, and ability to analyze and synthesize.

Teaching & Learning Method

 

·         The wide variety of courses and in-depth discussion with lecturers will be strengthen the understanding both theory and application. Therefore, these could improve student’s performance especially in working on assignment and writing thesis.

·         Giving reading lists in the form of books or journals. Giving assignments contain of problems, which could develop students’ analytical and critical thinking.

·         Not only self-performance, but also team work is being a concern in master of economics program.

·         In order to have a deep understanding in the scientific research, each student should attend the research methodology of economics course.

·         Lecturers encourage students to avoid plagiarism.

·         Philosophy of Economics course would allow students to create discussion forum, which could improve soft skill such as how students deliver idea and argument

 

Assessment Method

 

·         The performance of student to work independently is assessed through tasks given and thesis. The assessment contains of analytical and critical thinking, and how he presents and compiles ideas and scientific arguments.

·         Students will be assessed through many indicators. One of those is how students implement theory and knowledge to solve certain problems given.

·         In the learning process, the lecturers give group project assignments. This is to develop the team work skill as a simulation of working atmosphere and building their connection with peers.

·         The output of methodology of economic course is a proposal research. The ability of students in performing a research will be assessed through the submitted proposal, which will be presented by each student in order to get the feedback from the lecturers.

·         Every submitted task, project, and thesis should pass the plagiarism test.

·         The lecturer marks the process of discussion and makes sure that students actively involved in the discussion forum.

C. Specific Skill

Graduates are able to analyse economic problems using comprehensive economic methodologies, interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary approaches;

Graduates are able to work under ethical values to undertake research activities, starting from identifying a research problem, formulating a hypothesis, collecting relevant references, designing a research method, doing data analysis, and summarising findings;

Graduates are able to publish research article in reputable journals

 

Teaching & Learning Method

 

·         Lecturers give assignments related to the economic problems. Therefore, the students could discuss their point of views and provide solutions, which might be related to interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary.

·         The ability to identify and develop a research has been built through learning related courses such as intermediate macroeconomics and microeconomic, econometrics, methodology of economic, and elective courses.

·         Each student is equipped with the ability in conducting and developing research especially when he or she attends the methodology of economic course.    

 

Assessment Method

 

·         The lecturer gives mark and feedback of the assignments.

·         Students learn courses and work on the assignments, which will support them to have analysis skill in identifying and developing research.

·         The requirement to be graduated is that the student should have at least one published research in an accredited journal.

Teaching & Learning Method

 

·         The lecturers deliver subjects, which improve understanding of theories and analytical tools useful for research. By conducting researches, students could help to improve gain knowledge and skill, contribute to literature and to the related authorities in terms of policy advice (if it is possible).

·         Economics master degree at Airlangga University provides students access to guest lecture and workshop. These programs aim to increase the students’ awareness of issue in the community, environment, and international level.

·         Giving a presentation task independently or in a group. The objective is to form discussion, to respect the different opinion, and to develop critical thinking as well as idea. 

·         In accordance with the value of university and academic norms, integrity and anti-plagiarism should be instilled in every lecture.

 

Assessment Method

 

·         Lecturers encourage students to conduct researches by giving task such as a project in econometrics course. The assessment of econometrics project should not only from the analytical tools but also the theory and relevance;

·         The assessment based on the attendance or task given related to the topic of guest lecture or workshop;

·         The assessment criteria are based on the academic context, attitude, how they present ideas and respond to others students’ opinion. These could gain skills needed when they work;

·         Every submitted task or project should pass the plagiarism test.
