(WEBS NEWS) On Friday, April 10, 2026, the 2026 Internal Public Speaking Class (PSCI) activity was held by the Workshop Entrepreneur Business Society (WEBS) Universitas Airlangga at the Miendrowo Hall, Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Airlangga. This activity was held as a forum for developing the communication skills of internal members of the organization amidst the rapid development of the digital era. Changes in people's communication patterns through digital platforms such as TikTok and Instagram have encouraged the emergence of the short attention span phenomenon, where audiences tend to be more interested in short, clear, and interesting information delivery. This condition requires students to be able to convey ideas effectively in a limited time through appropriate and persuasive communication techniques.
The 2026 PSCI, themed "Mastering the Elevator Pitch," aims to improve students' communication skills so they can effectively convey ideas in today's fast-paced digital world. This activity is designed as a learning tool for elevator pitching techniques, which is the ability to convey ideas, concepts, and key messages concisely, concisely, clearly, and engagingly within a limited time. Through this activity, participants are expected to improve their public speaking skills and build confidence in conveying ideas professionally.
The 2026 PSCI activities were divided into several main sessions: presentation sessions, interactive discussions, and practical sessions. In the material sessions, participants learned about the basic concepts of elevator pitches, effective communication techniques, how to craft persuasive messages, and strategies for quickly capturing audience attention. Next, participants participated in interactive discussion sessions to understand the challenges of communication in the digital era and the importance of delivering effective and relevant messages. In the practical sessions, participants were given the opportunity to simulate pitching and practice public speaking challenges to hone their communication skills in a practical way.
The entire series of PSCI 2026 activities proceeded smoothly and according to the planned schedule. Participants' enthusiasm was evident throughout the material and practical sessions, particularly during the elevator pitching simulation. Active interaction between participants and presenters contributed to a communicative and productive learning environment, ensuring a well-received understanding of the material.
In addition to focusing on developing communication skills, the 2026 PSCI also supports the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This activity supports SDG 4 (Quality Education) by improving the quality of learning and developing students' soft skills. Furthermore, this activity contributes to SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth) because elevator pitching skills are an important competency in the professional and entrepreneurial world. The organization of this activity also reflects the spirit of collaboration in line with SDG 17 (Partnership for the Goals) through cooperation between the committee, participants, and supporting parties in creating a productive learning environment.
Overall, the 2026 PSCI activities succeeded in developing applicable and relevant communication skills for WEBS members Universitas Airlangga. Through this activity, it is hoped that participants will be able to adapt to communication patterns in the digital era, increase their confidence in public speaking, and be able to convey ideas concisely, clearly, and impactfully in a society that has limited time to receive information.
